HSE Supervisor
Why This Role Stands Out
This HSE Supervisor role offers significant autonomy and direct impact within a reputable global manufacturer, allowing you to lead safety initiatives and drive real change. You will thrive here if you are a proactive leader eager to develop a team and own critical environmental and safety programs. Apply now to step into a position where your expertise directly shapes operational excellence.
Quick Overview
Job Description
Our client is a global manufacturer supplying the automotive industry, with production operations across North America. Their Middle Tennessee plant is a well-established, ISO-certified operation, and they are hiring a Health, Safety & Environmental Supervisor to own the safety and environmental function on site.
This is not a compliance-paperwork role. You will report directly to the Plant Manager, supervise a team of HSE Representatives, and carry real authority over how the plant operates — from reviewing new equipment and layout changes before they hit the floor, to driving corrective action after an incident, to owning the environmental management system and the audits that keep it certified. If you have been an EHS specialist waiting for a seat where your recommendations become decisions, this is that seat.
What You Will Own
Team leadership and program ownership
• Supervise, develop, and direct a team of Health, Safety, and Environmental Representatives
• Report directly to the Plant Manager as the site’s HSE authority
• Set the standard for safety behavior across the plant, including with visitors and contractors
Compliance and environmental management
• Ensure HSE policies, procedures, and programs comply with corporate standards, OSHA, and federal, state, and local regulation
• Lead the plant’s environmental management system and coordinate the activities required to maintain ISO certification
• Manage environmental programs, including chemical inventory logs and corresponding safety data sheets (SDS)
• Manage internal audits and annual certification programs
Risk reduction and incident response
• Respond to and facilitate investigations of HSE incidents and near misses, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions to closure
• Inspect facilities to identify existing and potential hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures, and follow up to confirm implementation
• Review new machinery, equipment, and plant layout changes before installation to build safety in up front
• Monitor occupational health and industrial hygiene activities, including air sampling and noise measurement
• Organize ergonomic assessments and job hazard analyses across all areas of the plant
• Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment is available to employees
Training and documentation
• Manage position-specific safety and health training covering work site practices, fire prevention, and correct handling of chemicals, toxins, and equipment
• Maintain HSE files and records, and compile and submit accident and regulatory reports as required
How Success Is Measured
• Recordable and lost-time incident rates trend down year over year
• Corrective actions from incidents, near misses, and audits close on time rather than staying open
• ISO certification and regulatory audits are passed without major findings
• Training completion and PPE compliance hold across all shifts and departments
• Environmental reporting is accurate, current, and submitted on schedule
• New equipment and layout changes reach the floor with hazards designed out, not retrofitted
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Health or Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field from an accredited four-year institution
• Broad working knowledge of federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental law and regulation
• Strong leadership and decision-making ability, including the willingness to make difficult calls and set the example on the floor
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including delivering presentations
• Ability to manage both short-term and long-term projects through to completion
Preferred
• 7+ years of related HSE experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial production environment
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Prior experience supervising an HSE team
• Experience maintaining an ISO-certified environmental or safety management system
