About the Role
Our client, a major national retailer headquartered in Minneapolis, is modernizing its core finance and inventory systems to support the next generation of retail operations. As part of this transformation, they are building out Stock Ledger 2.0 and Warehouse Cost Adjustments (WCA) capabilities to replace long-standing mainframe functionality. We are partnering with them to bring on a Senior Engineer who will help deliver required Inventory Valuation functionality and support two clean quarters of parallel operations alongside the existing mainframe system. This is a fully remote opportunity operating on Central Time, within a fast-paced, agile engineering environment focused on finance, pricing, and chargeback platforms.

Job Description
The Engineer will focus on the design, development, and deployment of Inventory Valuation functionality within a modern JVM-based technology stack. This role sits within a collaborative product team supporting finance-critical systems, including inventory valuation, pricing, and chargebacks. The engineer will contribute to microservices-based architecture, messaging platforms, and REST APIs while working closely with cross-functional partners across infrastructure, security, and product.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and test code to deliver functionality that meets overall business strategy and objectives.
  • Build the work needed to implement features from the product backlog and size user stories accordingly.
  • Unit test code, create automated test scripts, and execute all other testing-related tasks.
  • Test deliverables against user story acceptance criteria.
  • Execute necessary project documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams to ensure features meet business needs.
  • Follow industry-standard agile software design methodology for development and documentation.
  • Partner with infrastructure, security, and other stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Ramp up quickly on an existing system and contribute with minimal guidance.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Senior-level development experience in Java and Kotlin.
  • Senior-level experience with messaging platforms (such as Kafka) and exposure to microservices-based architecture, including consumer and producer implementations.
  • Senior-level experience building and supporting REST APIs.
  • Solid database experience with Oracle Exadata, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra.
  • Ability to ramp up quickly on an existing system and contribute with minimal guidance.
  • Strong team collaboration and communication skills.
  • Availability to work during Minneapolis business hours (Central Time).
  • Ability to work closely and collaborate effectively with the client''s internal engineering team.
  • 3–5 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • 1–3 years participating in agile development (user stories, iterative development, etc.).
  • Experience with test-driven development and software test automation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with modular monorepo architecture.
  • Experience working on framework-free codebases.
  • Experience with RocksDB.
  • Ability to work 2 days onsite at the client''s Minneapolis office.
