Quick Overview
Job Description
Robotics R&D Engineer
We are seeking a talented Robotics R&D Engineer to join our team working on Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and modular automation platforms. This is a hands-on role focused on designing, building, and improving next-generation robotic and automation systems used in research and pharmaceutical environments.
About the Role
You will contribute directly to the development of advanced AMR systems and automation platforms, covering electrical design, system integration, prototyping, testing, and optimisation. Youll work across robotics, embedded systems, control systems, and software to deliver reliable, scalable automation solutions.
- Development of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), robotic platforms, and modular automation systems from concept through to deployment.
- Design and implement automated and manufacturing workflows integrating liquid handling systems, industrial robots, machine vision, barcode scanning, sample tracking, and external database interfaces.
- Develop scalable automation solutions to increase throughput, improve process reliability, and reduce manual intervention in complex operational environments.
- Design modular electromechanical systems incorporating power management, motion control, vibration isolation, fluid and gas handling, waste management, and safety systems.
- Develop and deploy robotic control software using ROS2 and simulation environments to support autonomous operation and system optimisation.
- Create and maintain digital twins and simulation models to support system design, testing, validation, and continuous improvement activities.
- Perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, system verification, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure robust and reliable operation.
- Integrate sensors, vision systems, actuators, and communication networks to deliver end-to-end automated solutions.
- Produce technical documentation including system architectures, design specifications, test procedures, risk assessments, and commissioning documentation.
- Strong technical capability across Python, C#, and C programming, with experience developing robotics and automation solutions using ROS2 and Isaac Sim.
- Experienced in supporting software interfaces, alongside electrical system design, integration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Required Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, or Mechatronics
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, sensors, and control systems
- Experience in prototyping, testing, and system integration
- Ability to read and produce electrical schematics
If you're passionate about robotics, automation, and building intelligent real-world systems, wed love to hear from you.
