The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to join a high performing team supporting critical national security systems in Canberra. This is a hands on role responsible for the deployment, support, and ongoing management of complex infrastructure environments spanning on premises, virtualised, and cloud based platforms. You will work closely with developers, system administrators, and security specialists to deliver secure and scalable infrastructure solutions while supporting advanced analysis and operational platforms. The role requires a strong background in Linux administration, virtualisation, cloud technologies, automation, and containerised environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of complex infrastructure platforms.
  • Develop and maintain automated system build and configuration management processes.
  • Provide ongoing hardware, operating system, and platform support across enterprise environments.
  • Support the deployment and operation of Kubernetes and VMware based analysis platforms.
  • Collaborate with system administrators, software developers, and engineers to improve infrastructure processes and procedures.
  • Participate in solution design reviews, stakeholder engagements, and technical planning activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, networking, and platform related issues.
  • Manage and administer virtualised and cloud hosted environments.
  • Deploy and support developer and analyst tooling, including access controls and package management solutions.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain isolated and sandboxed environments used for secure analysis activities.
  • Mentor and support junior team members while contributing to team capability uplift initiatives.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Linux Systems Administration across on premises and cloud environments.
  • Strong experience with VMware technologies, including VMware Aria, design, deployment, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience supporting enterprise virtualisation and cloud infrastructure environments.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts including VLANs, DNS, load balancers, routing, and firewall configurations.
  • Hands on experience with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience deploying and administering developer tooling, package repositories, and access management solutions.
  • Experience designing and supporting isolated or sandboxed environments.
  • Experience with automation and configuration management tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively within complex technical and operational environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring team members and contributing to technical leadership activities.
  • Exposure to cloud services and enterprise infrastructure environments.
