Job Description

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, seeks an Enterprise Data Engineer to design and scale data platforms that power critical healthcare decisions. In this role, you will architect and build secure, compliant data pipelines and warehouses, enabling advanced analytics and clinical insights across a complex, highly regulated environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, champion data quality and governance, and leverage cloud, big data, and automation to improve health outcomes, affordability, and operational performance at national scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise data strategy and architecture for healthcare analytics solutions
  • Design, implement, and optimize data pipelines and warehouses/lakes
  • Ensure data quality, governance, security, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA)
  • Collaborate with clinical, product, and engineering teams on data-driven solutions
  • Translate business and clinical needs into scalable data models and integrations
  • Implement best practices for metadata management, lineage, and documentation
  • Evaluate and integrate new data technologies and cloud services
  • Mentor data engineers and analysts, promoting standards and reusability
  • Partner with stakeholders to prioritize backlog and deliver high-impact initiatives
  • Monitor performance, reliability, and cost of enterprise data platforms
