Mechanical Engineer - Mechanical Engineer III
Location: Seattle, Washington (On-site)
COMPENSATION: $46 - $56 HOURLY
Role Overview
As a Failure Analysis support engineer, you will be responsible for conducting technical lab work which supports prototype failure analysis and materials development investigations. You will develop and execute SOPs focused on producing world-class analysis outcomes in the areas of sample preparation and physical/chemical characterization. You will provide technical support for materials and failure analysis investigations with the goal of driving design and manufacturing improvements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for materials and failure analysis investigations.
  • Develop and execute SOPs for sample preparation and physical/chemical characterization.
  • Perform optical inspection and measurements.
  • Conduct mechanical cross-sectioning and associated sample preparation.
  • Utilize 2D and computed tomography (CT) X-ray inspection methods.
  • Execute materials testing, including thermal-mechanical and environmental testing.
  • Maintain lab equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Write SOP documents and lab reports.
Required Qualifications
Education: Associate of Science degree in laboratory technology, electron microscopy, x-ray analysis or related field.
Experience: 2 years of related work experience in performing bulk materials or electronics cross sections.
Skills:
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Experience with lab safety best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in materials science or related field.
  • Experience with failure analysis methodology to derive a root-cause diagnosis of failure.
  • Experience with materials and failure analysis techniques such as SEM/EDX, mechanical test, dye and pry, hardness testing, and 3D surface profiling.
  • Experience with X-ray inspection and measurement software (VGSTUDIO or similar).
  • Experience in an aerospace-related lab environment.
  • Experience in making custom fixtures (3D printing, machining, prototyping).
Work Environment
This position is on-site and may include up to 10% international and domestic travel.
