POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision of the Manager, maintains hospital buildings and equipment and assists with changes and additions to the physical plant. Performs a variety of duties in and around the building and grounds of the hospital to support maintenance activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Maintains and operates equipment; performs air conditioning and refrigeration repairs, electrical changes and repairs, electronic repairs and testing, and mechanical equipment repairs, and plumbing changes and repairs.
2. Participates in preventative maintenance programs.
3. Tours hospital complex to observe operating equipment, meters and gauges to ensure that operation is in accord with specified instructions.
4. Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunction when indicated by observation or in response to a signal light.
5. Notifies supervisor when major repairs or assistance is required.
6. Records readings of meters, gauges and graphs on inspection sheet.
7. Checks exterior lighting and accesses route to hospital.
8. Inspects, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water and drainage systems.
9. Constructs, repairs and maintains wooden structures such as furniture equipment, partitions and other parts of the hospital.
10. Assists with repairs, and installations of small refrigeration machines, assists in overhaul of major refrigeration machines.
11. Reports all safety hazards to supervisor or administration in time of need.
12. Ensures that work area and shop is in a clean and orderly condition to create a pleasant, comfortable and safe physical environment for patients, employees, medical staff and general public.
13. Performs PMS and completes work orders as assigned.
14. Performs a variety of routine standard servicing/repair operations to maintain hospital buildings, equipment, furnishing, fixtures and ground in proper condition as directed.
15. Performs urgent, corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems as required; performs preventative maintenance on equipment and physical structures as required, maintaining related records.
16. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors, adheres to all HMH policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity of service.
17. May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines. Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations. Will be required to be in the on-call rotation.
18. Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
19. Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
20. Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
21. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: One year of experience in building maintenance or related area preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current, valid driver’s license
Required Skills: Ability to read blueprints and equipment schematics.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching & climbing.
Occasional: sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling & twisting
Visual and hearing acuity required: Work is both inside and outside.
Possible exposure to: loud noise, extreme temperatures, toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens
