Job Description

BI Platform Support Lead / Sr. Analyst Alteryx, Tableau, MicroStrategy (10+ Years)

Role Summary

We are seeking a BI Platform Support Lead with 10+ years of experience supporting and maintaining enterprise BI/analytics platforms across Alteryx, Tableau, and MicroStrategy (optional/nice-to-have). This role owns day-to-day platform health, administration, and operational support across the BI tool stack, and serves as the primary point of coordination between business stakeholders, platform vendors, and the AWS infrastructure/cloud engineering team - since the client runs its broader technology estate on AWS, with these COTS BI tools as the primary exceptions. The ideal candidate is comfortable being the POC for BI platform issues while working closely with AWS-focused infra teams for hosting, version, and integration needs.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Administration & Maintenance

  • Administer and maintain Alteryx Server/Designer, Tableau Server/Cloud, and MicroStrategy (where applicable) - installations, upgrades, patching, and configuration changes.
  • Monitor platform health, job/workflow performance, server capacity, and license utilization across all BI tools.
  • Manage user provisioning, role-based access, security groups, and permissions across platforms.
  • Own platform incident management - triage, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to failed jobs, connectivity, performance degradation, and licensing.
  • Coordinate and execute platform upgrades, patches, and version migrations with minimal business disruption, including regression testing of critical workflows/dashboards post-upgrade.
  • Maintain documentation for platform configurations, support runbooks, and standard operating procedures.

AWS & Infrastructure Coordination

  • Coordinate with the client's AWS infrastructure/cloud engineering teams for BI platform hosting, since these are the primary COTS tools operating outside the native AWS-first environment.
  • Support integration of Alteryx, Tableau, and MicroStrategy with AWS-hosted data sources (Redshift, RDS, S3, Athena) and ensure connectivity, credentials, and network paths remain stable through infrastructure changes.
  • Work with AWS teams on server sizing, EC2/on-prem hosting decisions, backup/DR strategy, and security compliance for BI platform infrastructure.
  • Flag and manage any platform-specific infrastructure needs (compute, storage, networking) that fall outside standard AWS-native tooling.

Stakeholder & Operational Coordination

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business users, data teams, and platform vendors on all BI platform support matters.
  • Coordinate with report/workflow developers, data engineers, and business analysts to resolve platform-level blockers impacting their work.
  • Manage vendor relationships and support tickets with Alteryx, Tableau, and MicroStrategy support teams.
  • Track and report on platform uptime, SLA adherence, ticket resolution times, and recurring issue trends to leadership.
  • Plan and communicate platform maintenance windows, downtime, and change management activities to stakeholders.
  • Support license renewals, cost tracking, and platform usage reporting for budget and governance purposes.

Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish and enforce platform usage standards, naming conventions, and governance policies across teams.
  • Identify opportunities to automate routine administration tasks (health checks, license audits, job monitoring).
  • Support platform consolidation, retirement, or modernization initiatives as tools evolve (e.g., legacy tool retirement, migration to AWS-native alternatives).
  • Provide input into platform roadmap decisions based on operational pain points and usage trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of overall IT experience, with significant hands-on experience administering and supporting enterprise BI platforms.
  • Strong hands-on administration experience with Alteryx Server/Designer (installation, configuration, job scheduling, troubleshooting).
  • Strong hands-on administration experience with Tableau Server/Cloud (site administration, permissions, extract refresh scheduling, performance troubleshooting).
  • Working knowledge of platform licensing, user/role management, and security models across BI tools.
  • Experience coordinating with AWS infrastructure/cloud teams for platform hosting, networking, and data source connectivity (Redshift, RDS, S3, Athena).
  • Strong incident management and troubleshooting skills - able to diagnose issues across application, data connectivity, and infrastructure layers.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills - comfortable coordinating across business, technical, and vendor teams.
  • Experience managing platform upgrades, patches, and change management processes with minimal business disruption.
  • Ability to create and maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and support procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience administering MicroStrategy (server administration, project configuration, security).
  • Familiarity with AWS core services (EC2, S3, RDS, Redshift, IAM) relevant to BI platform hosting and integration.
  • Experience with platform monitoring/observability tools (CloudWatch or equivalent) for BI infrastructure.
  • Exposure to ITSM tools (ServiceNow, ITIL practices) for incident and change management.
  • Experience supporting platform consolidation or migration initiatives (e.g., legacy tool retirement, cloud migration).
  • Vendor certification(s) in Alteryx, Tableau, or MicroStrategy.
