Job description

Join our ambitious Credit Card Team as a Lead Product Manager and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of one of Nationwide’s fastest-growing portfolios. Following the acquisition of Virgin Money, we're entering an exciting new phase of growth and scale, creating even greater opportunities to innovate, strengthen our market position and deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers. This is a high impact role where you’ll combine commercial leadership, strategic thinking and customer insight to drive performance and unlock new opportunities.

As the commercial owner of the portfolio, you’ll take the lead in understanding what drives business performance, identifying where value is created, and turning insight into action. Working closely with Finance, Risk, Analytics and Marketing, you’ll shape customer acquisition strategies, develop compelling propositions, explore new channels for growth and deliver against ambitious sales objectives. By connecting customer behaviour with commercial outcomes, you’ll influence key business decisions and help deliver sustainable growth.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll be located at our nearest regional office or hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration and in some locations you’ll be expected to spend at least two days a week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, in the office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What you’ll be doing

You'll play a key role in shaping the commercial performance and future direction of our credit card portfolio, using customer insight, portfolio economics and market understanding to identify opportunities for growth and long-term value creation. Working closely with Commercial, Finance and Risk teams, you'll use data-driven insights to influence pricing, acquisition and credit strategies, balancing commercial success with strong risk management and excellent customer outcomes.

You'll take ownership of portfolio performance, bringing together financial, customer and risk data to evaluate results, forecast future performance and identify actions that will drive growth. By understanding how customers engage, spend, borrow and repay, you'll develop targeted strategies across the customer lifecycle, improving acquisition, activation, retention and overall portfolio value while ensuring every initiative delivers measurable results.

Alongside leading commercial planning and opportunity management, you'll help ensure our products, pricing and customer interventions deliver fair value and meet Consumer Duty requirements. Partnering with colleagues across Risk, Finance and Compliance, you'll oversee customer and commercial outcomes, proactively managing risks and ensuring sustainable growth that benefits both our customers and the business.

About you

As a Lead Product Manager, you'll bring strong commercial acumen, analytical capability and the confidence to influence decision-making across a complex business environment. We're looking for someone who can combine strategic thinking with a deep understanding of portfolio performance to deliver sustainable growth and improved customer outcomes.

  • Proven experience managing or influencing the P&L and performance of a credit card, unsecured lending or similar financial services portfolio

  • Strong understanding of credit card economics, including balances, spend, interest and fee income, funding costs, impairments, operating costs and customer attrition

  • Excellent analytical and commercial judgement, with the ability to translate complex data and insights into clear priorities, actions and measurable outcomes

  • Demonstrable experience identifying, quantifying and managing commercial opportunities and risks, implementing recommendations and tracking delivery through to realised P&L impact

  • Strong experience in business planning, forecasting, variance analysis, scenario modelling and presenting performance insights to senior stakeholders

  • A proven track record of collaborating across Finance, Risk, Data, Operations and Marketing to influence decisions and deliver sustainable commercial and customer results

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with evidence of influencing senior leaders, challenging constructively and contributing to strategic business decisions

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
