Electrical Engineer – Power Generation

Location: Milwaukee, WI

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong expertise in power generation, power conversion, and medium-voltage power systems. The engineer will support the design, development, testing, and launch of complex electrical products from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop power generation, conversion, and distribution systems including generators, inverters, switchgear, transformers, and paralleling equipment.
  • Design medium-voltage systems (1 kV–38 kV), including insulation coordination, BIL, creepage/clearance, busbars, cables, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protection coordination, and insulation coordination studies.
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and product specifications.
  • Plan and execute electrical, dielectric/hipot, environmental, fault-injection, and system validation testing.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, NEC, IEEE, CSA, and applicable industry standards.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to optimize designs for cost, reliability, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with power generation, power conversion, or power distribution.
  • Hands-on expertise with medium-voltage systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, EMC/EMI, grounding, thermal management, and protection systems.
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong understanding of IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC/NFPA, and UL standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred: Experience with mission-critical power systems, new product development, SAP/ERP systems, and industry standards organizations.
