Senior Software Engineer - AI/Backend

Job Description
A fast-growing fintech and insurtech company is seeking an AI Engineer to join its engineering team and help build AI-powered products and services at scale.
This role is heavily focused on backend development and Generative AI, with an emphasis on designing, building, and deploying production-grade AI systems. The ideal candidate has a strong Java engineering background, experience building scalable microservices, and a track record of integrating LLMs and AI capabilities into customer-facing applications.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize backend services that support AI and LLM-powered workflows.
• Build and maintain scalable APIs and microservices using Java and modern backend frameworks.
• Integrate AI and machine learning models into production environments with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Develop and own AI-powered features from concept through deployment.
• Monitor and evaluate AI system performance in both testing and production environments.
• Troubleshoot issues across AI services, model serving infrastructure, and backend systems.
• Partner with product and engineering teams to define requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and platform improvements.

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with Java and modern backend development frameworks.
• Experience building and supporting APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experience integrating AI, machine learning, or LLM-based solutions into production applications.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and modern application architectures.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and production support.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Desired Skills

• Experience with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks.
• Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, or prompt engineering.
• Familiarity with AI evaluation frameworks and model performance monitoring.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized environments.
• Exposure to Python for AI/ML development.
