Job description

onsemi is seeking a Wafer Sort Technician in Hopewell Junction, NY. This is a multi‑skilled, hands‑on role responsible for supporting semiconductor manufacturing through equipment maintenance, process execution, and day‑to‑day operations. This position requires a strong willingness to learn semiconductor processes, ATE software setup, troubleshoot and maintain manufacturing equipment, and support smooth production flow while adhering to all safety, quality, and cleanroom standards.

This role is ideal for a technician who enjoys hands‑on technical work, problem‑solving, and working in a high‑precision manufacturing environment. This role is targeted at focusing on product development as primary priority, with production support as secondary. 

Standard Day Shift - Monday to Friday (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM)

  • Perform, and teach others how to perform, preventive maintenance activities
  • React to error messages of factory systems and/or equipment
  • Review Statistical Process Control charts and other system indicators for process quality and react to Out of Control conditions, including defect troubleshooting
  • Perform, and teach others how to perform, visual inspections (quality checks)
  • Recover from process and tool interruptions
  • Identify and address potential areas for improvement and optimize tool availability, cycle time, utilization, and cost
  • Complete all required reporting and documentation
  • Understand and follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures and requirements
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement processes, learning, and skills development
  • Strong team member, able to work well with a global team, train new team members as needed, and perform other duties as assigned
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs
  • Education: High School Degree (or equivalent)
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • Travel – 0% to 10%
  • Fluency in English Language – written & verbal
  • Physical Capacity Demands – Working in a cleanroom environment per the semiconductor industry and Onsemi protocol/requirements.
  • Able to wear all required cleanroom & safety protective clothing and equipment throughout a 12-hour day (excluding breaks).
  • Able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds on a periodic basis throughout the shift (preventive maintenance) and/or process issues.
  • Able to perform work in a standing position for the majority of a 12-hour shift (excluding breaks)

Employees in this role may be required to participate in the site Emergency Response Brigade and support emergency preparedness activities. Participation includes maintaining required training, certifications, and response readiness in accordance with site policies and business needs.

Hourly: onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $21.20 to $36.92 exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses.The final pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and/or consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
