We are looking to connect with experienced professionals who can support our Clinical Studies of Facial Skincare and Aesthetic Assessments on a flexible basis.  Flexibility and the ability to work around evolving study schedules are important. 

Purpose of the post: 

Eurofins Alba is seeking a Consultant Aesthetician to support clinical studies of facial skincare, personal care and cosmetic products at our clinical testing facility in Edinburgh.

This consultant position allows aesthetic and skincare professionals to contribute their specialist expertise while supporting Eurofins Alba’s work in delivering high-quality, ethical and scientifically robust consumer and clinical studies.

The Consultant Aesthetician will support studies involving facial skincare and cosmetic product assessment, including areas such as skin hydration, radiance, texture, smoothness, firmness, fine lines, wrinkles, pores, redness, product tolerance and general facial skin appearance. Most study coordination, volunteer management, documentation and operational activities will be managed by the experienced Eurofins Alba laboratory and clinical operations team.

• Providing specialist guidance on appropriate assessment methodologies, grading scales, equipment, procedures and instrumentation required for facial skincare and aesthetic assessments.
• Reviewing study protocols and relevant study documentation, where required.
• Conducting or supporting protocol-specified facial skincare and aesthetic assessments at agreed study timepoints.
• Carrying out visual assessments of facial skin condition, appearance and product tolerance.
• Recording observations and assessment outcomes accurately and consistently.
• Supporting assessment of facial skin parameters such as dryness, redness, texture, smoothness, radiance, firmness, fine lines, wrinkles, visible pores and overall skin appearance.
• Advising on participant suitability and skin-related observations relevant to the study design.
• Supporting the identification and reporting of adverse reactions, skin tolerance observations or deviations, where required.
• Maintain current professional competence, training and knowledge within their field of expertise, including relevant aesthetic, skincare, safety and professional practice standards.
• Perform any treatment-related activities only where required by an approved study protocol, agreed in advance with Eurofins Alba, and within the consultant’s qualifications, competence, insurance cover and professional scope of practice.
• Where the consultant holds prescribing qualifications, provide prescribing-related input only where required by the study, legally permitted, clinically appropriate, and within their professional registration, prescribing authority and scope of practice.
• Working with the Eurofins Alba clinical team to ensure studies are conducted to appropriate ethical, quality and safety standards.
• Undertaking any other consultant duties commensurate with the nature and responsibility of the role as reasonably required.

• Qualified aesthetician, beauty therapist or skincare professional with relevant training. Strong knowledge of facial skincare, skin types, skin conditions and aesthetic assessment principles.
• Understanding of participant safety, confidentiality and professional standards.
• Understanding of the need to maintain professional competence, work within scope of practice, and follow relevant professional, ethical and safety standards.
• Ability to document observations clearly and accurately.
• Ability to conduct facial skincare and aesthetic assessments in line with protocol requirements. 
• Ability to advise on appropriate assessment methods, equipment, procedures and instrumentation relevant to facial skincare and aesthetic evaluation.
• Ability to assess parameters such as hydration, dryness, redness, texture, smoothness, radiance, firmness, fine lines, wrinkles, visible pores and product tolerance.
• Strong visual assessment and documentation skills.
• Ability to review study documentation and provide relevant specialist input.
• Ability to communicate findings clearly to the clinical study team.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
• Professional, ethical and participant-focused approach.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Eurofins Alba clinical and laboratory teams.
• Flexible and reliable approach to study scheduling and on-site attendance.
• Ability to work independently while following agreed study procedures.
• Current or recent experience practising as an aesthetician, beauty therapist, facialist or skincare professional.
