Job Description

Naval Architect, Senior | Lorton, VA, United States | Hybrid | $120,000 - $150,000

We're hiring for a respected engineering and professional services firm that delivers mission-critical support across multiple federal agencies and the commercial maritime industry. This employer is known for providing innovative, tailored expertise in multidisciplinary engineering and program management to tackle complex challenges.

The Role

  • Provide comprehensive technical support for ship design phases, including feasibility, concept, preliminary, and contract design.
  • Evaluate ship systems and equipment, develop and analyze requirements, and conduct studies related to hull form, stability, weights, structures, and design.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications for surface assets and boats, performing structural analysis using industry standards.
  • Plan, conduct, witness, and document crucial ship trials such as stability, speed, power, maneuvering, and seakeeping tests.
  • Support a leading U.S. federal agency's Ship Design Team within the maritime sector.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or a related engineering/marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressive experience in Naval Architecture.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat acquisition programs.
  • Proficiency with naval architecture software for complex hull design problems and knowledge of corrosion principles for metals.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, IACS, and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Eligibility for a Secret security clearance is required.
