Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Litigation Paralegal supports attorneys on filed cases from petition through trial or resolution. You will manage the litigation calendar, draft and file pleadings and discovery, coordinate depositions and experts, and build trial notebooks that hold up under pressure.
This role is for someone who is precise, deadline driven, and genuinely comfortable in litigation. If you know what happens when a discovery response is late, you understand why this seat matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Pleadings and Filings
- Draft petitions, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, and correspondence for attorney review
- File documents with Louisiana state and federal courts and track service of process
- Maintain compliance with local rules, court procedures, and e-filing requirements
- Prepare exhibits, affidavits, and supporting documentation for motion practice
Calendar and Deadline Management
- Own the litigation calendar, including prescription dates, discovery deadlines, and court settings
- Calendar every deadline the moment an order or notice comes in, with reminder intervals built in
- Alert attorneys well ahead of deadlines rather than at them
- Track continuances, scheduling orders, and pretrial conference requirements
Discovery and Evidence
- Organize and index discovery, medical records, and case documents for fast retrieval
- Summarize depositions, medical records, and voluminous productions
- Issue and track records subpoenas and third party document requests
- Assist with responses to written discovery and privilege review under attorney supervision
Depositions, Experts, and Trial
- Coordinate depositions, including scheduling, notices, court reporters, and witness logistics
- Communicate with experts on scheduling, materials, and report deadlines
- Prepare trial notebooks, exhibit lists, witness lists, and demonstrative materials
- Provide onsite trial support, including exhibit handling and witness coordination
Client and Team Support
- Communicate with clients about deposition prep, court dates, and case posture under attorney direction
- Coordinate with case managers on file handoff from pre-litigation into suit
- Keep case notes and file status current in the case management system

HOW SUCCESS IS MEASURED
Performance in this role is reviewed at 90 days, at six months, and annually. These are the measures that matter:
- Zero missed filing, discovery, or prescription deadlines on assigned files
- Filings accepted by the court without rejection or correction
- Draft pleadings and discovery approved by attorneys with minimal rework
- Litigation calendar accuracy on audit, including reminder intervals set correctly
- Discovery responses assembled and ready for attorney review ahead of the due date
- Trial notebooks and exhibits complete and organized before the pretrial deadline
- Records and deposition summaries delivered on requested turnaround
- Attorney time protected, measured by how little rework and follow up is required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- 3 or more years of litigation paralegal experience
- Working knowledge of Louisiana civil procedure and state and federal e-filing
- Demonstrated ability to manage a litigation calendar without missed deadlines
- Strong legal drafting and document organization skills
- High attention to detail and comfort under deadline pressure
- Proficiency with case management and document management software
Preferred
- Paralegal certificate or degree, or NALA or NFPA certification
- Plaintiff personal injury litigation experience
- Trial experience, including trial notebook preparation and onsite support
- Experience summarizing medical records and depositions
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
