Job Description

We are hiring an Embedded Software Engineer to design and build the real-time software, drivers and data systems behind our sensing and communications technology. You will take ideas from a clean sheet through to efficient, tested code running on our hardware in live deployments.

Because of the nature of our work, the successful candidate must complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks before starting. They must also be eligible for and willing to undergo UK Security Check (SC) clearance. SC clearance normally requires at least five years' residency in the UK. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Remote Working is not available.

  • Design and implement robust, real-time embedded software in C and C++ for microelectronics, sensors and other subsystems.
  • Write low-level drivers and hardware abstraction layers (HALs) for a range of microcontrollers and FPGAs.
  • Implement and optimise communication protocols.
  • Design and deploy data collection systems for remote environments, and load-balanced staging and production IoT data services.
  • Maintain and correct records in SQL-based databases.
  • Run unit, integration and hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) testing, and structured test protocols, to make live deployments fault tolerant, reliable and long-lasting.
  • Contribute across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from clean sheet design to efficient, working code.
  • Align technical solutions with market research and customer requirements.

  • Essential**
  • Fluent in C, C++ and Python, with experience of SQL-based databases.
  • Familiarity with Git version control.
  • An analytical mindset. You enjoy breaking complex problems down and building them back up into elegant, efficient code.
  • High standards. You write clean, well-commented code that other developers can follow and build on.
  • A collaborative approach. You can speak “hardware”, “physics” and “software”, and bridge the gap between engineering disciplines.
  • Desirable**
  • Experience with low-power wireless SoCs.
  • Embedded firmware experience in C or C++ for radio stacks.
  • RF simulation tools and PCB design tools.
  • Experience in defence, security or space projects.

• The chance to work on cutting-edge sensing and communications technology used by the MOD, ESA and NATO partners.

• A modern office with R&D labs, and real influence over products at an early stage in our growth.
