Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Accountant to oversee critical accounting functions and support the financial performance of our planning, design, and construction operations. This role will be responsible for managing general accounting activities, project accounting, financial reporting, budget support, and internal controls. The Senior Accountant serves as a trusted financial partner to leadership and project teams, providing insights that drive operational efficiency and informed decision-making.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, experience in project-based environments, and the ability to identify opportunities for process improvements while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
- Analyze financial performance and communicate key trends, risks, and opportunities to leadership
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Cash Management
- Monitor Daily Cash & reconcile – cleared checks and deposits
- Process bank deposits and monitor outstanding deposits
- Administer Positive Pay and fraud prevention controls
- Investigate and resolve banking exceptions and reconciling items
Project & Construction Accounting
- Manage project accounting functions, including job costing, revenue recognition, and project profitability analysis
- Monitor project budgets, costs, billings, and forecasts
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Leadership to review project financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Prepare and analyze Work in Progress (WIP) schedules
- Manage progress billing, retainage tracking, and contract compliance
- Support project forecasting and cash flow planning
Budget & Financial Analysis
- Develop financial models and reporting tools to enhance business insights
- Support strategic planning and financial decision-making initiatives
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic forecasts
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Oversight
- Review vendor payments, customer billings, and collection activities
- Prepare and process weekly vendor payments
- Ensure timely resolution of billing and account issues
- Monitor cash flow and working capital metrics
- Coordinate annual 1099 reporting requirements
- Assist with employee reimbursement and expense reporting processes
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain and strengthen internal accounting controls and financial procedures
- Assist with external audits, tax preparation, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Administrative Support
- Support employee activities related to timekeeping and expense reporting.
- Serve as the on-site liaison and primary point of contact for Hoffman employees regarding HR and Finance matters when needed
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Certified Public Account (CPA) preferred
- Minimum of 5-8 years of accounting experience with demonstrated growth in responsibilities and expertise
- Experience with construction, architecture, or project-based industries strongly preferred
- Experience with job costing, project accounting, and financial reporting
- Experience with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint Vista or similar ERP systems
