Engineer Manager, Insurance Platforms & Developer Enablement - Waltham, MA

Job Description A growing property and casualty insurance organization is seeking an Engineering Manager, Insurance Platforms & Developer Enablement to lead a team focused on modernizing engineering practices, accelerating software delivery, and enhancing internal technology platforms.

As insurance organizations continue to invest heavily in digital transformation, this team is responsible for improving how engineering teams build, test, deploy, and support business-critical applications. The position will guide engineers across platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and developer productivity initiatives that support underwriting, policy administration, billing, claims, and customer-facing systems.

This role offers the opportunity to influence technology strategy, introduce AI-powered development capabilities, and help build a modern engineering culture within a highly regulated business environment. Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of experience leading software engineering teams.
• Strong background in backend software development.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale business applications.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and software delivery automation.
• Experience working within cloud-based infrastructure environments.
• Understanding of Kubernetes and container technologies.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
• Experience leading large technical initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience within insurance, financial services, or highly regulated industries.
• Experience supporting policy, claims, billing, or underwriting systems.
• Platform Engineering or Developer Productivity leadership experience.
• Familiarity with internal developer portals and self-service tooling.
• Experience implementing AI-assisted software development practices.
• Experience working within hybrid engineering organizations.

What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of platform and backend engineers.
• Drive improvements to software delivery and engineering productivity.
• Build scalable internal development platforms and automation capabilities.
• Improve release management, deployment automation, and system reliability.
• Partner with engineering and business teams to prioritize platform investments.
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes and improve developer efficiency.
• Establish standards around testing, observability, infrastructure, and deployment practices.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies that can improve engineering effectiveness.
