Job Description

The Opportunity

Our client, an established M&E engineering specialist, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Project Manager to lead the mechanical works on a major project in Bath, reporting to the M&E Project Director.

Mechanical delivery on one major project, mobilisation through to handover. Not a run of overlapping jobs where none of them is really yours.

Mechanical delivery inside a highly serviced, regulated facility is largely a coordination problem wearing an installation problem's clothes. Plant rooms are tight, the electrical scope is interleaved with yours rather than sequenced after it, and commissioning evidence has to be built up as the work goes in rather than assembled at the end. Treating those as the job rather than as interruptions to it is most of what separates a good twelve months from a difficult one.

The initial programme runs for twelve months, with further projects in the region behind it. This is a permanent role in Bath, £70,000 to £80,000 depending on experience, plus a full benefits package.

About the Business

Highly serviced facilities in regulated sectors change what project management involves. The services are the reason the building exists rather than a layer inside it, compliance applies throughout construction instead of arriving at handover, and the client's own operation often continues while the work goes on around it. That is the environment the mechanical programme has to survive contact with.

Our client is an M&E engineering specialist covering the design, delivery and maintenance of highly serviced facilities, working nationally and holding ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Their work takes place in live, regulated and operationally sensitive environments, where compliance applies throughout construction rather than arriving at handover. The Bath project is an initial twelve-month programme, part of a wider regional programme with further work already in the pipeline, which is why these are permanent appointments rather than contract ones.

Reporting into a Project Director on a single project is a deliberate structure rather than an accident of headcount. It means one scheme with proper attention instead of four with partial attention, and it is the same reason the business is appointing permanently off the back of a regional pipeline rather than contracting for the duration.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Delivering the mechanical works from mobilisation through commissioning and handover
  • Managing the mechanical programme, the resourcing and the day-to-day running of site
  • Leading site teams and subcontractors to safety, quality, programme and budget
  • Coordinating with the electrical side so both disciplines stay aligned
  • Reporting progress, risk and cost to the Project Director
  • Acting as the point of contact for the client and main contractor on mechanical matters
  • Procuring materials, plant and subcontract packages in line with programme and budget
  • Maintaining health, safety and quality standards on site
  • Overseeing testing, commissioning, handover documentation and defect close-out
What We're Looking For
  • A proven mechanical or M&E project delivery background, mobilisation through to handover
  • Experience on large-value projects at Senior Project Manager level, or ready to step up to it
  • Strong programme management and subcontractor management
  • Comfortable coordinating across disciplines rather than working within one
  • Current knowledge of mechanical standards and regulations
  • SMSTS and CSCS, alongside relevant mechanical qualifications
  • Full UK driving licence

Experience in industrial or process environments is an advantage, though not essential. Candidates based in or around Bath are preferred, though the business will support travel or relocation and funds on-site accommodation for anyone travelling in.

What's on Offer
  • £70,000 - £80,000 depending on experience
  • Permanent (Not a project contract)
  • Accommodation funded (For travelling candidates)
  • One major project with proper attention, rather than several with partial attention
  • A regional pipeline behind the first programme, so the work does not stop at handover
  • A direct line to the Project Director, inside a senior team rather than a reporting chain
