Job Description

Senior Data Scientist Washington, DC / Hybrid Blu Omega is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support a federal civil mission. This role is responsible for advanced statistical modeling, AI/ML development, and data integration within a legally and operationally sensitive environment. Program Overview Support a federal civil mission through data analytics and AI to enable data-driven insights for investigations, litigation, and claims management.

Key Details Location: Washington, DC / Hybrid Clearance / Suitability: Public Trust eligibility required. Responsibilities

  • Collate and integrate large-scale client data to produce statistical analyses supporting investigative, litigation, and claims management needs.
  • Design and implement AI/ML solutions (supervised and unsupervised) to support anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and investigative insight across healthcare, financial, and mass tort data.
  • Design and validate algorithms and machine learning outputs using statistical modeling to confirm accuracy, precision, and sensitivity.
  • Apply mathematical and statistical modeling techniques to organize, optimize, mine, and predict new data from multiple sources.
  • Work within AWS GovCloud using data lakes, serverless computing (e.g., Lambda), and ETL practices to manage large or unstructured data where infrastructure is limited.
  • Train client personnel on dashboards, analytical tools, and AI-assisted workflows; promote responsible AI use through training and reference materials.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and develop automated, reproducible, and auditable solutions for data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Support data readiness assessments for AI use cases; document models, assumptions, training data, and limitations in line with policy.
  • Serve as a reviewer for statistical estimates and machine learning evaluations performed by others, independently examining assumptions, logic, and interpretation.
  • Design dashboard content to meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 Level A/AA accessibility standards. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (a combination of experience and education exceeding this requirement is acceptable).
  • Hybrid role requiring onsite presence in Washington, DC (estimated two days per week).
  • 5+ years of professional data science, statistics, or mathematics experience using Python, R, or another analytical/statistical language.
  • 4+ years of experience in custom AI model training (supervised and unsupervised), with NLP expertise focused on unstructured data.
  • 2+ years of experience manipulating unstructured data from different platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL, including database administration and/or SQL programming.
  • 2+ years of experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, or Elastic X-Pack.
  • Strong communication skills, including presenting quantitative concepts in accessible formats and actively listening to identify business and mission problems.
  • Experience independently reviewing statistical or machine learning analyses performed by others, including evaluation of assumptions, methodology, and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS big data and analytics services (e.g., SageMaker, Athena, Aurora, Snowflake) and cloud-based data pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Section 508/WCAG accessibility standards for dashboards and data visualizations.
  • Experience with dbt, Airflow, or Dagster for data transformation and pipeline orchestration.
  • Experience applying AI/ML methods in a legally sensitive or litigation-support environment.

Compensation Salary Range: $100,000.00 - $175,000.00 Final compensation is based on technical skills, experience, education, certifications, and clearance. Blu Omega Benefits & Perks
