Position Overview

The client is looking for an Application Technical Specialist to support and maintain mission-critical legacy processing systems, particularly DCR applications running on SCO Unix/UnixWare environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain legacy DCR applications operating on SCO Unix platforms.
  • Provide administration and technical support for SCO UnixWare environments.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Unix shell scripts used for batch processing.
  • Monitor and support mission-critical production processing systems.
  • Perform flat-file processing and manage scheduled batch jobs.
  • Debug, analyze, and reverse engineer legacy code with limited or outdated documentation.
  • Collaborate with business users, developers, and technical teams to resolve application issues and implement enhancements.
  • Evaluate system modifications and recommend improvements to application functionality and performance.
  • Identify and implement best practices, standards, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate development and support activities across application teams.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for application functionality, support procedures, and system changes.
  • Participate in incident resolution, root cause analysis, and ongoing production support.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of overall application development experience
  • 3+ years of DCR programming experience
  • 3+ years of SCO UnixWare administration experience
  • 3+ years of Unix Shell Scripting experience
  • 3+ years of production support experience for legacy business applications
  • Experience supporting legacy DCR applications on SCO Unix
  • Experience with flat-file processing and batch job management
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and business stakeholders
  • Local candidates who can work onsite in Trenton, NJ 3 days per week

Preferred Skills

  • 2+ years of experience with legacy procedural programming languages such as COBOL, RPG, or C
  • Experience debugging and reverse engineering legacy applications with limited documentation
  • Experience with flat-file processing environments
  • Advanced skills with technologies such as SharePoint, SAP, Curam, ServiceNow, HL7, or PEGA
  • Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise-level business applications

Important Requirement

The client is specifically looking for candidates with strong SCO Unix/UnixWare administration and DCR experience supporting legacy DCR applications. COBOL experience is a plus but does not replace the required DCR experience.
