Job Description:
EV Charging System Verification Engineer
Location: Seattle, WA (On-site)
Role Overview
This organization is seeking a skilled engineer to join a dedicated team focused on ensuring the reliability and safety of fleet EV charging infrastructure through systematic testing and validation. The role involves managing testing activities for one of the largest private EV charging networks globally, collaborating closely with external vendors to maintain high standards across the charging network. Candidates should possess strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a structured approach to systems verification.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform systems development, integration, and testing of electrical systems, including hands-on installation of hardware such as EV chargers, instrumentation, and fuses.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, execute validation tests, and generate detailed reports based on defined test cases.
  • Enforce safety protocols within the laboratory environment, ensuring electrical and high-voltage safety practices are consistently met.
  • Analyze requirements from elicitation to verification for EV chargers, power supplies, inverters, and converters.
  • Utilize digital bus and network communication protocols, including OCPP, ISO15118, CAN, Modbus, RS485, and Serial.
  • Apply Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) methodologies to identify and mitigate potential system failures.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, including pulsed power component testers, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and data logging instruments.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership and external vendors to support field deployments and resolve technical issues.
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time to designated sites for test execution and data collection.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical systems development, integration, and testing, with a strong focus on real-world charger validation over general verification.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in DFMEA, high-voltage testing, and hands-on power electronics validation. Experience with Python or MATLAB for data parsing, visualization, and test automation is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct validation experience with DC fast charging systems, charger interoperability, and battery management systems (BMS).
  • Strong familiarity with CCS and NACS standards.
  • Proven track record of managing subcontractor relationships and leading technical testing initiatives.
