We are seeking a Senior Security Systems Engineer 3 to join our Security and Electronic Systems (SES) business Unit.
As part of (SES) Strategic Business Unit you will be part of a team that designs, engineers, integrates, operates and maintains electronic security services inclusive of intrusion detection, access control, biometric authentication, video surveillance, audio visual, it systems, perimeter defense and command and control systems for federal, local and commercial customers across high-growth markets. Responsibilities M.C. Dean's SES Division is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support our federal customers missions and program needs across complex, evolving technical environments.
You will define, design, architect, integrate, test, and transition complex systems using systems engineering methods, working across technical, operational, acquisition, and program management organizations to translate stakeholder needs into system concepts, architectures, requirements, and technical roadmaps.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply systems engineering practices across the full lifecycle: stakeholder analysis, concept development, architecture, requirements development, integration, verification and validation, and technical transition
- Translate customer needs, operational constraints, and program objectives into system concepts, functional designs, and implementation approaches
- Develop, assess, and refine system architectures, including operational, functional, logical, and physical views, interfaces, data flows, and integration points
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops and technical exchanges to elicit, document, and validate requirements; maintain traceability from stakeholder needs through design, interfaces, and verification
- Conduct engineering studies, trade analyses, and gap assessments to evaluate current systems, technology options, and opportunities for improvement
- Lead system integration, test, verification, validation, and deployment activities, including sequencing and readiness reviews; resolve technical blockers
- Identify and manage technical risks, issues, and dependencies; support technical reviews (requirements, architecture, design, test readiness, deployment readiness)
- Support RMF accreditation and ATO maintenance; ensure accuracy of system documentation, including design, configuration, and O&M plans
- Manage product backlog and prioritize work with stakeholders in an agile environment; define and enforce engineering standards and processes
- Prepare and deliver technical briefings, trade-study results, and status reports; advise government customers and program leadership on technical priorities and modernization roadmaps
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams (software, hardware, cybersecurity, cloud, data, network, test, operations) and communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences Qualifications Education/Experience:
- 5+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years with a Master's degree, a PhD with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience applying systems engineering practices to complex technical, operational, or mission-focused systems, including one or more of: architecture modeling, agile methodologies, requirements development, interface analysis, integration planning, verification and validation, or technical documentation
- Ability to develop or review architecture products, requirements specifications, trade studies, technical plans, and acquisition artifacts
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to brief technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work directly with government sponsors, program managers, and technical teams, both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
- Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives
- Active Top Secret clearance with full-scope polygraph (FSP) or ability to obtain one (U.S. citizenship required)
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%, including to various sponsor locations; position requires a minimum of 4 days/week on site
- Strong MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in engineering, systems engineering, data science, or a related field
- Experience developing SysML/UML workflow diagrams, including block definition, activity, sequence, state machine, and requirement diagrams
- Experience applying systems architecture frameworks, interface models, or enterprise architecture products
- Experience advising the federal government on acquisition lifecycle activities, including SOW/SOO development, market research, and source selection support
- Experience with digital or mission engineering, enterprise architecture, cloud-based systems, data platforms, cybersecurity, or command-and-control systems
- Experience leading technical tasks, facilitating stakeholder workshops, or advising senior technical and program leadership
- Experience researching, prototyping, or integrating emerging technologies, and with systems that have strict security, resiliency, interoperability, or regulatory requirements
