Job description

Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Hillel BC as the Lead Campus Professional at the University of Victoria (UVic). You’ll build one-on-one relationships with students, plan and run fun and meaningful events on campus, and help inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life. At UVic, your job is to bring Jewish life to campus and strengthen a growing Jewish student community. You’ll meet with students to learn about their experiences and needs as Jewish students, then create engagement opportunities based on what they tell you. You’ll be the person students turn to when they’re looking for connection, culture, meaning, or just a sense of belonging. This is front-line, people-first work that makes a real impact.

Picture your day starting with a coffee chat with a student, followed by a planning session with student leaders to bring a new program to life. You’ll host Shabbat dinners and holiday celebrations, mentor student boards as they shape their own communities, and work with faculty, administration, and the broader Jewish community of Victoria. You’ll also oversee the Hillel House residence and make sure it stays a warm, welcoming home for its tenants. And when issues arise, you’ll be ready to stand up for Jewish students. This is a unique opportunity to build something lasting, in a place where Jewish students deserve to feel proud, supported, and part of a larger community.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop one-on-one connections with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work, and study, using creative methods to engage them in Jewish life.
  • Work closely with student boards and lead program planning meetings with student leaders.
  • Mentor students through individual and group training, helping build a caring, diverse, and welcoming community for students of all backgrounds.
  • Develop programs that enrich Jewish student life as part of Hillel’s overall education strategy, and make sure every program runs smoothly from content to logistics.
  • Take part in community-wide programming across our campuses, including Shabbat and holiday dinners, campus lunches, and social and fundraising initiatives. Some travel is required.
  • Support student-led programs and serve as a Jewish resource to students and groups on campus.
  • Oversee the operations of the Hillel House residence, keeping it a supportive and welcoming environment for all tenants.
  • Prepare for and respond to anti-Israel and antisemitic incidents, working closely with the Campus Director and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) to keep students safe and supported.
  • Support and empower students in their Israel and Jewish advocacy goals so they can amplify their voices and impact.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience
  • Outgoing and friendly, a relationship builder who’s comfortable connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and thrives on one-on-one conversations
  • A strong collaborator and communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • A self-starter with excellent follow-through who can plan events from A to Z and juggle multiple moving pieces
  • Strong knowledge of Jewish history, holidays, customs, and traditions
  • Passion for building Jewish community and creating inclusive spaces where every student feels seen and valued
  • Experience cooking for large groups is a strong asset
  • Access to a vehicle is strongly suggested

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $54,000.
  • A comprehensive health insurance package, including an additional $500 wellness package
  • Monthly Bus pass if required
  • Great professional development, mentoring, and skill-building opportunities
  • Paid Vacations and Supportive Environment
