Oracle DBA Contractor (3-Month Contract)

Oracle DBA | 3-Month Initial Contract | Hybrid Working | Immediate Requirement

We're supporting a critical infrastructure team in securing an experienced Oracle DBA Contractor to provide essential cover and support during a period of transition.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Oracle DBA to step into a large, complex Oracle environment, providing operational stability whilst supporting a busy database estate that underpins approximately 30 business-critical applications.

The Opportunity

You'll work alongside the existing Oracle DBA team, helping to maintain, support, and optimise a substantial Oracle estate. The role is focused on ensuring continuity of service, mitigating key-person risk, and providing additional support during planned absences within the team.

This is very much an Oracle-first role. We're looking for a contractor who can hit the ground running and confidently manage BAU DBA activities while helping keep critical systems running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

• Administration, monitoring, and support of a large Oracle database estate
• Management of Oracle Data Guard environments
• Backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities
• Database performance tuning and optimisation
• Database cloning, patching, upgrades, and maintenance
• Supporting daily production database cloning activities
• Managing Oracle databases hosted on Red Hat Linux
• Assisting with troubleshooting and incident resolution
• Working closely with infrastructure and application support teams to maintain service availability

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience as an Oracle DBA
• Extensive knowledge of Oracle Database Administration
• Experience with Oracle Data Guard
• Strong understanding of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and performance management
• Experience with database cloning, migrations, patching, and maintenance
• Experience managing Oracle environments on Red Hat Linux
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Desirable Skills

• Experience with SQL Server Administration
• Exposure to:
  • DNS
  • Active Directory
  • Server administration
  • Infrastructure support
• Comfortable supporting wider infrastructure tickets when required

Working Arrangements

• Hybrid working model
• Mandatory onsite attendance every Thursday
• Infrastructure team typically works onsite 2+ days per week
• Contractor required to start as close to 12th October as possible

Candidate Profile

We're looking for a genuine Oracle DBA specialist, not an infrastructure engineer with limited Oracle exposure.

The successful contractor will be comfortable working autonomously, taking ownership of operational DBA activities, and providing critical support during an important transition period.
