About CARE

CARE International is a global humanitarian organisation leading the fight to end poverty in the world's most challenging situations. Women and girls are at the centre of our work, because we cannot overcome poverty and inequality until all people have equal rights and opportunities. We know that when a crisis erupts, women are often the first to pick up the pieces, so we work alongside women, so they have the power to make change where it's needed most. Founded in 1945, CARE currently works in over 100 countries and last year alone reached 53.4 million people through nearly 1,500 projects.

Why work for CARE International UK?

Join CARE International UK at an exciting point in Lendwithcare's development and help shape a distinctive programme that combines financial inclusion, measurable social impact and public engagement. This senior manager role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to oversee a global microfinance portfolio, support innovation and strengthen responsible access to finance for entrepreneurs, particularly women and underserved communities. With exposure to programme strategy, partnership development, impact measurement, risk monitoring, fundraising and external representation, it is an excellent opportunity to broaden your leadership and technical experience while contributing directly to CARE's ambitions for women's economic justice and lasting routes out of poverty.

About the role

The Senior Microfinance Manager will provide senior technical and operational leadership across Lendwithcare's global portfolio of financial service provider partners. Working closely with the Head of Lendwithcare, the role will ensure strong programme quality, impact and financial stewardship through partner due diligence and monitoring, portfolio and repayment risk management, impact measurement, safeguarding and technical support. The postholder will also help deliver Lendwithcare's programme strategy and income ambitions, contribute to fundraising and supporter communications, and strengthen links with CARE's wider financial inclusion and Women's Economic Justice work.

The role requires strong financial and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret microfinance performance data, assess institutional and portfolio risk and make sound recommendations in complex situations. The successful candidate will be able to communicate technical information clearly and compellingly to specialist and non-specialist audiences, build trusted relationships across cultures and organisations, and influence, negotiate and facilitate learning effectively. They will also need the judgement and adaptability to balance social impact, responsible finance, operational delivery, reputational risk and supporter expectations.

About you

You will be an experienced financial inclusion or microfinance professional with a strong understanding of responsible finance, women's entrepreneurship and the realities of working with financial service providers in lower-income contexts. You will bring experience of partnership management, financial and social performance assessment, risk management and impact measurement, ideally including peer-to-peer lending, green inclusive finance or donor engagement. Collaborative, culturally sensitive and committed to equity and women's empowerment, you will be comfortable taking ownership, making evidence-based decisions and representing CARE with credibility.

Living our Values and Feminist Leadership Principles (FLPs)

At CARE International UK, living by our values and FLPs is an expectation for all staff and is central to how we achieve our goals and uphold our culture. To help us do this, we have developed a Behaviour Competency Framework. These competencies focus not on what we deliver, but on how we work to achieve impact. They define the behaviours, attitudes and ways of working that enable us to bring our values and FLPs to life every day. It is a shared language for how we make decisions, work inclusively, build trust, support one another, develop people and learn from experience.

Our framework is built around seven competencies and applies to all employees. We encourage candidates to review the attached Behaviour Competency Framework (BCF) Summary, which provides further information on the behaviours and expectations associated with each competency.
