DB2 Data Engineer (Remote)

Position Summary

The organization is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain database applications, focusing on ensuring efficient data processing, performance, and modernization. This role offers an opportunity to work with enterprise-level data solutions in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain various database applications on the platform, utilizing dynamic SQL.


• Convert RPG code to SQL stored procedures and perform performance tuning.


• Implement logging and exception handling to ensure robust application operation.


• Read and interpret RPGIV, RPGLE, RPGFree programs, along with embedded SQL.


• Modernize existing RPG applications by converting them to SQL stored procedures within the database.


• Collaborate using internal tools and frameworks for version control and deployment.


• Interact with front-end systems through REST APIs and JSON data formats.


• Contribute to application development projects, including exposure to Python, microservices, and development in the Visual Studio Code IDE.


• Use version control systems to manage code changes and enable team collaboration.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience developing and maintaining database applications, particularly on the platform with dynamic SQL.


• Strong expertise in SQL stored procedures, with significant development experience in the specified database environment.


• Ability to read and understand RPGIV, RPGLE, RPGFree programs, and embedded SQL.


• Experience in converting and modernizing RPG applications into SQL stored procedures.


• Familiarity with enterprise tools such as source control and deployment frameworks.


• Demonstrated application development interaction with front-end systems using REST APIs and JSON.


• Exposure to Python programming, microservice architecture, and IDE development in Visual Studio Code.


• Proficiency in using source control systems like Git.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise tools such as Aldon, RDI, or ACS.


• Background in performance tuning and exception handling for database applications.


• Knowledge of internal version control and deployment methodologies.


• Prior experience working in a collaborative team environment on enterprise data projects.
