The Role

  • Interpret engineering drawings, mark off materials, and prepare plate using cutting and grinding methods.
  • Assemble ship structures, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding of components.
  • Fabricate various ship items, including seats, ladders, flooring, hatches, and watertight doors.
  • Form materials using machine tools like rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment.
  • Work within teams to produce high-quality steelwork for advanced naval vessels.

What You'll Need

  • Modern Apprenticeship certificate (Trade Papers) and relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing.
  • Understanding and application of core manufacturing processes, including tack welding to safety and quality standards.
  • Confidence in operating oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment responsibly.
  • Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements.
  • Experience working safely in confined spaces or at height, with relevant safety certifications.
