Fabricator – Plater | Johnstone, United Kingdom | On-site | £38,662

The Role

  • Interpret engineering drawings, mark up materials, and prepare plate using oxy-fuel cutting and hand grinding.
  • Assemble ship structures, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack-welding of components like decks, bulkheads, and frames.
  • Fabricate various ship items, including seats, ladders, flooring, panels, and watertight doors.
  • Form materials using machine tools such as rolling, flanging, and cutting equipment.
  • Apply modern apprenticeship training and marine fabrication experience to produce high-quality steelwork for essential defence projects.

What You'll Need

  • A Modern Apprenticeship certificate or Trade Papers, along with relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Up-to-date fabrication knowledge and hands-on experience in construction or manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding and application of core manufacturing processes and tack welding standards.
  • Confidence and responsibility in operating oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment.
  • Adherence to SHE principles and risk-assessment requirements, with experience working safely in confined spaces or at height.
