The Fiber Networks team manages the design, construction, and maintenance of a mission-critical fiber network supporting electric transmission and distribution operations. The Fiber Networks Specialist will coordinate fiber projects, maintenance activities, contractors, and technical solutions that support reliable electrical network operations.
Fiber Networks Specialist Responsibilities
- Manage and support fiber optic network projects, including new installations, maintenance, and relocations.
- Coordinate contractors and subcontractors to establish project requirements, costs, schedules, and deliverables.
- Design scalable, reliable, and cost-effective fiber solutions.
- Champion safe work practices in accordance with corporate, OSHA, NESC, and industry standards.
- Conduct field site visits as needed and maintain accurate project, construction, and network documentation.
- Coordinate fiber optic activities through established Change Management processes.
- Develop business cases for new projects and follow established IT Operations and network processes.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
Fiber Networks Specialist Qualifications Critical
- 2+ years of direct outside fiber project management experience; higher-level opportunities may require 47 years.
- Experience in electric transmission/distribution, fiber engineering/design, fiber installation/maintenance, or cable service environments.
- Experience working with and knowledge of ADSS and OPGW fiber cable.
- Knowledge of underground fiber construction, distribution power space, and transmission-line fiber installations.
- Demonstrated fiber project management and construction drawing/document experience.
- Knowledge of right-of-way, permitting, underground locating, OSHA, and NESC requirements.
Fiber Networks Specialist Qualifications Additional
- Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, FileNet, fiber mapping tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with optical network transport technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, time-management, and communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and collaborate professionally with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
