Senior Cost Estimator/Project Estimator/Proposal Estimator-Houston TX

Overview

A leading engineering and marine construction organization is seeking a Cost Estimator to join its Estimating team. This role is responsible for developing detailed cost estimates, execution plans, and bid strategies for large-scale infrastructure and marine construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience preparing estimates for projects valued at $25M+, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale construction projects.
• Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope, risks, and pricing requirements.
• Prepare execution plans and conceptual project layouts to support bid development.
• Present estimates and project plans during internal bid review meetings with senior leadership.
• Analyze project costs, labor, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and production rates.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, procurement, and project management teams throughout the estimating process.
• Provide estimating support to project teams during project execution.
• Monitor project budgets, production, and actual costs, providing updates and variance analysis as needed.
• Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
• Perform additional estimating and project support duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent relevant work experience).
• Experience preparing estimates for construction projects valued at $25 million or more.
• Strong understanding of construction estimating principles, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present estimates to leadership.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction estimating software.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with heavy civil, marine, infrastructure, dredging, or large-scale industrial construction projects.
• Knowledge of project budgeting, production tracking, and cost control during project execution.
• Professional certifications related to estimating or construction management are a plus.
