Quick overview
Job description
JUNIOR DESIGNER LONDON
Beauty. Cosmetics. Fashion. Polished, high-end brand work across print and digital, and the best place to learn the craft.
We’re Seen & Heard, a global creative agency with studios in Newcastle and London, making brilliant work for some of the world’s biggest brands. Two studios, one team, loads of great work. Now we’re looking for a Junior Designer with a sharp eye, a love of craft and a hunger to learn. You’ll soak up everything our designers know and bring fresh ideas back to the table.
What you’ll get your hands on
· Page layout, lots of it, done beautifully (you’ll need strong layout skills)
· Digital: e-commerce, social and web banners
· Print: leaflets and brochures
· Digital publications: mobile, e-books and flip books
THE ROLE
You’ll sit at the heart of the studio, surrounded by experienced designers. The role is open to you whether you have a few years behind you or you’re fresh out of education.
Most of your week goes on one big account: adapting and localising global assets for markets and languages around the world. You don’t need a second language, but if you have one, we’d love to hear about it. Adapting and localising at volume is a big part of the job, but not all of it. It’s beautiful work on global brands and the best crash course going in how a brand system behaves in the real world. You’ll pick up other studio work alongside it, and the mix will shift as the programme and the business grow.
This is a growth role, and you won’t be doing it alone. Our Senior Designer and the wider team are here to teach. They’ll review your work in progress, explain the why instead of quietly fixing your file, and make time for your development. We have a strong track record of training and keeping our people. We want someone who wants to grow with us and who lives our values of curiosity, partnerships, insight, agility and integrity. Above all, we want someone who solves problems through beautiful design, not someone who sees design as an output.
WHERE YOU FIT IN
· Line manager: our Studio Manager, who looks after both sites
· Day-to-day direction and craft support: the Senior Designer and the studio designers
· Final quality check on global toolkits: our Lead Designer in Newcastle
· Scheduling and job planning: the PM team
We’re one design team across two cities. This is a full-time, studio-based role, because the best learning in your first couple of years happens in the room, elbow to elbow with other designers.
DESIGN AND CRAFT
· Design and artwork across everything the studio makes: print and retail, digital, social and e-commerce, long-form documents and presentations
· Adapt and localise global assets across markets, formats and languages, to spec
· Take a brief, ask about anything unclear before you start, then come back with design solutions, not only questions
· Prepare artwork to production standard, with support: specification, pre-press, formats and colour
· Check your work against the brief, the brand guidelines and the spec before anyone else sees it
WORKING INSIDE THE SYSTEM
Much of what we make is built once and used many times, in several languages and markets. Most files you touch will have been built by someone else, and leaving them in great shape matters as much as what’s on the page.
· Work inside existing masters and templates without breaking them
· Keep files structured, named and consistent so the next person can pick up where you left off
· Follow brand systems and guidelines closely, and speak up when something looks off instead of working around it
· Learn how we use creative automation and AI-assisted production, and work within our studio guidelines on them
· Tell us when a template or process makes the work harder than it needs to be
LEARNING THE CRAFT
The people around you are here to teach. In return, we ask you to be coachable, ask questions and make the most of it.
· Show work early and in progress, not finished and defended
· Take critique well and put it into practice
· Spend time with the Senior Designer and the team, and ask why decisions were made
· Build your print and production knowledge on purpose, with experienced designers backing you
· Bring ideas, references and new tools back to the studio, because curiosity counts as much as craft here
WHAT WE OFFER
· Pension: 3% matched contribution
· Holiday: 23 days plus bank holidays, with time off between Christmas and New Year guaranteed
· Sick pay: 5 days at full pay each year
· Flexible working: hybrid options that work for you and the team (see note 3)
· Wellbeing: free gym classes in Newcastle and rooftop sauna access in London (yes, a rooftop sauna)
· Learning and development: monthly lunch-and-learns, plus funding and time off for relevant courses
Sound like you? Send us your portfolio and tell us why you’re ready. We can’t wait to see what you’ve got.
