Job Description

Position: Formulation Technician / Batch Preparation Specialist

Department: Research & Development / Manufacturing Operations

Location: Summit, NJ

12+ Months Contract

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Formulation Technician to join our Consumer Health product development team. In this role, you will be responsible for formulating, compounding, and preparing test and pilot batches of consumer health products in accordance with rigorous quality, safety, and regulatory standards. You will interface directly with R&D, QA, and Manufacturing teams to bring high-performing products from concept to execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Batch Preparation & Compounding: Formulate and prepare trial and pilot batches of consumer health products adhering strictly to established specifications, batch records, and SOPs. Run experimental bench trials to optimize formulations and stability.

  • Documentation & Regulatory Compliance: Maintain detailed, audit-ready laboratory records, batch formulation sheets, and testing results in accordance with cGMP and regulatory guidelines.

  • In-Process Quality Control: Monitor physical and chemical parameters throughout formulation; detect deviations and partner with QA to investigate and remediate out-of-specification (OOS) occurrences.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with R&D scientists, analytical chemists, and production specialists to scale up bench formulations into commercial-ready processes.

  • R&D Support & Innovation: Assist formulation scientists in testing raw materials, bench-marking competitive products, evaluating alternative ingredients, and adopting modern laboratory preparation techniques.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related scientific discipline.

  • Experience: 1 3 years of hands-on experience in laboratory formulation, compounding, or batch manufacturing (consumer health, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, OTC, or pharma preferred).

  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with laboratory compounding equipment (mixers, homogenizers, viscometers, pH meters), batch records, and standard QA/QC analytical methods.

  • Core Competencies: High attention to detail, strong analytical problem-solving, effective cross-functional communication, and solid time management in a fast-paced lab environment.
