Quick Overview
Job Description
About Marcura:
Marcura is a global leader in maritime technology and operations, supporting nearly one‑third of the world’s seaborne commodity trade. Our trusted platforms which span software, data intelligence and payments sit at the centre of digital transformation across the maritime industry. We are now seeking a Principal Product Manager Compliance to join our high‑impact team and contribute to the success of one of the sector’s most forward‑looking organisations.
Purpose of Role
As Principal Product Manager for Marcura Compliance, you own the product strategy, roadmap and commercial outcomes for our compliance portfolio — counterparty due diligence (KYB & KYC), continuous counterparty and vessel monitoring, sanctions, PEP and adverse media screening, cargo screening, and the Counterparty Passport directory. You set direction across the compliance platform, its customer-facing applications and the entity data layer that underpins them, translating regulatory obligatiosn and customer risk appetite into products that maritime, trade and financial institutions rely on to make counterparty decisions.
This is a hands-on principal role rather than a people-management one. You are expected to operate autonomously with minimal direction: you frame the problem, evidence the business case with real usage, billing and market data, define the solution with engineering and compliance specialists, and stay accountable through launch, adoption and revenue. You bring the rigor of financial services compliance (AML/CFT, KYC/KYB, sanctions and financial crime) and apply it to a maritime and trade context, acting as the senior product voice with customers, partners and the executive team.
Job Responsibilities
1. Own, publish and defend the multi-year product strategy and roadmap for the Marcura Compliance portfolio, so that investment is directed at the highest-return opportunities, by grounding every decision in measured customer usage, billing and competitive evidence rather than opinion.
2. Define and continuously prioritize the product backlog across the compliance platform and its customer-facing applications, to keep engineering focused on the work that moves revenue and retention, by maintaining a single ranked roadmap and declining work that does not clear the bar.
3. Grow the established revenue lines (KYB onboarding, continuous screening/monitoring, due diligence reporting) to meet agreed ARR targets, by identifying and closing scope, coverage and volume expansion within named accounts together with Sales and Customer Success.
4. Lead the introduction of new propositions, notably the Counterparty Passport directory and embedded compliance across Marcura’s other business units, so the portfolio grows beyond its current base, by carrying each one from business case through pilot to first paying customers against agreed dates.
5. Own pricing and packaging for the portfolio, to protect margin and simplify the commercial conversation, by maintaining an evidenced rate card and testing every proposed change against realized prices before it is put to the business.
6. Translate regulatory obligation and customer risk policy into product requirements, so customers can evidence their own compliance to regulators and auditors, by working directly with compliance specialists, customers’ compliance teams and external counsel where required.
7. Act as the senior product voice with enterprise customers, prospects and partners - running discovery, demonstrations, workshops and executive reviews - to keep the roadmap anchored in real demand and to support Sales through complex, compliance-led deals.
8. Define the entity, counterparty and screening data strategy covering coverage, sourcing, quality and match accuracy, because the product’s credibility rests entirely on its data, by setting measurable quality targets and holding both external data providers and internal teams to them.
9. Establish, instrument and report the portfolio’s success measures (adoption, retention, revenue, KYB turnaround time and completeness against policy, screening accuracy, time to decision and false positive rate) to give the executive team an honest and current view of performance, by publishing a regular self-serve view rather than ad hoc decks.
10. Raise the standard of product management across the compliance function, to build capability that outlasts any single release, by mentoring less experienced product colleagues and improving how discovery, prioritization, launch and post-launch review are practiced.
Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Law, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification (MBA or Master’s) is a plus.
- A professional financial crime or compliance certification - ICA Diploma, ACAMS (CAMS) or equivalent in AML, sanctions or financial crime prevention is a strong plus.
Work Experience
- 10+ years of total professional experience, including at least 6 years in product management and 3+ years at lead or principal level owning a revenue-bearing product line end to end.
- Substantial experience gained in banking, payments or financial services - ideally in financial crime compliance (AML/CFT, KYC/KYB, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring) or in a RegTech serving those institutions.
- Proven track record of taking a compliance, risk or data product from strategy through discovery and delivery to commercialization, with measurable revenue, adoption or retention outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision - setting the agenda, prioritizing ruthlessly across competing demands, and driving decisions to closure across functions and time zones.
- Experience owning pricing and packaging for B2B products, including combined subscription and per-unit/consumption models, and defending commercial cases to an executive audience.
- Experience with data-intensive products: entity and counterparty master data, third-party data providers, screening and matching engines, and the false-positive economics that come with them.
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers’ Compliance, Risk and Legal functions, including at Head of Compliance and executive level.
- Experience delivering in an agile, remote-first, geographically distributed engineering environment.
- Maritime, shipping, commodity trading or trade finance experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with AI or LLM-assisted compliance automation - document extraction, adverse media, entity resolution, risk scoring is a plus.
Skills and Knowledge
Compliance domain
- Deep working knowledge of AML/CFT, KYC and KYB, sanctions regimes (OFAC, EU, UN, UK OFSI), PEP and adverse media screening, and the evidentiary standard expected of due diligence reporting.
- Understanding of the regulatory and audit drivers that shape customer buying decisions, including data protection (GDPR), information security (ISO 27001), record retention and auditability.
Product craft
- Able to set, evidence and defend a multi-year product strategy, size opportunities bottom-up from real usage and billing data, and be explicit about what will not be built.
- Strong discovery and definition skills: customer research, problem framing, and writing requirements crisp enough for engineers to build from without rework.
- Commercial fluency (unit economics, pricing, margin, business cases) and the ability to work alongside Sales on named-account expansion and new logo acquisition.
- Data literacy: comfortable interrogating product, usage and billing data directly (SQL or BI tooling) rather than waiting on an analyst.
- Technical fluency sufficient to hold a credible design conversation with senior engineers about APIs, integrations, data models and screening pipelines, without doing the engineering.
Training
- Financial crime or compliance training and certification (ICA, ACAMS) is a strong plus.
- Working knowledge of agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) is expected; formal training is a plus.
- Training or practical exposure to AI and Large Language Model product development, particularly applied to compliance automation, is a plus.
Working style
- Exceptional written and verbal communication - able to write a board-quality paper and run a customer workshop with equal confidence.
- Influences without authority across engineering, compliance operations, sales, customer success and finance, and is comfortable holding a position under executive challenge.
- Self-directed, organized and decisive in ambiguity, with the judgement to escalate the few things that genuinely need escalating.
- Competitive Salary and Bonus: We reward your expertise and contributions.
- Inclusive Onboarding Experience: Our onboarding program is designed to set you up for success right from day one.
- Marcura Wellness Zone: We value your work-life balance and well-being.
- Global Opportunities: Be part of an ambitious, expanding company with a local touch.
- Diverse, Supportive Work Culture: We’re committed to inclusion, diversity, and a sense of belonging for all team members.
