The Automation Architect contributes to the Saab 9LV Combat Management System within the Systems Delivery Group. The role shapes the technical direction of the SDG development environment and related capabilities, guiding DevSecOps teams and aligning with broader corporate policy. The Automation Architect provides technical leadership, guidance, and product roadmaps, and maximises global alignment and compliance.
Key responsibilities include leading the technical direction of DevSecOps teams, providing architectural and SME guidance on specification, design, implementation, integration, testing and deployment activities; acting as the Product Owner for the Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CDP) and other systems under the DevSecOps remit; and monitoring planning to ensure capacity, performance and availability. The role also involves formulating technology roadmaps, developing automation strategies and tooling, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to identify needs, ensure global product alignment, and support security and project controls for the development environment. Mentoring DevSecOps teams and driving continuous improvement are also central to the role. Flexible work arrangements such as a 9-day fortnight will be considered.
Responsibilities- Lead the technical direction of DevSecOps teams and provide architectural guidance across specification, design, implementation, integration, testing and deployment activities.
- Act as Product Owner for the Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CDP) and other systems under the DevSecOps teams' responsibility.
- Lead monitoring and planning activities to ensure capacity, performance and availability.
- Formulate and communicate forward technology roadmaps to meet identified needs and opportunities.
- Lead activities in analysing, designing, and implementing automation strategies, workflow improvements and tool selection.
- Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify needs, coordinate infrastructure evolution and ensure global product alignment.
- Perform assurance activities for security compliance and project controls associated with the development environment.
- Mentor and coach DevSecOps teams to align designs with DevSecOps best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement by fostering and developing new ideas.
- Tertiary qualifications (bachelor's degree) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience (preferably in defence).
- Familiarity with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) Information Security Manual (ISM).
- Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
- Broad understanding of technology trends and CI/CD concepts; Experience implementing CI/CD solutions and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Experience building and deploying containerised applications and in application/infrastructure monitoring and incident response.
- Proficiency with configuration tools (e.g., Ansible) and monitoring/analysis tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
- Experience with Linux and open-source tools management.
- Desirable: Agile practices; experience with ASD ISM controls; experience with Atlassian Datacenter tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Fisheye, Crucible).
- Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (preferably NV1).
- Willingness to have information related to nationality/citizenship checked for access to controlled materials under export control regimes (e.g., ITAR).
