Job Description

QAI Laboratories Inc is seeking a Building Products Testing Technician to support testing, certification, and inspection of building materials and systems. In this hands-on role, you will set up and operate lab equipment, conduct standardized tests, record and analyze data, and prepare technical reports to support safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate closely with engineers, clients, and inspectors in a quality-focused, safety-driven environment, helping manufacturers meet North American and international standards while developing strong technical expertise and growing within a specialized testing organization.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, calibrate, and operate building products test equipment and fixtures
  • Conduct standardized tests on building materials, components, and systems
  • Record, analyze, and summarize test data with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Prepare clear technical test reports and documentation for certification files
  • Follow test methods, work instructions, and quality procedures (e.g., ISO/IEC standards)
  • Support engineers and senior staff in test planning, troubleshooting, and data review
  • Maintain a safe, organized laboratory environment and comply with safety protocols
  • Communicate test status and results to internal teams and clients as required
  • Assist with sample handling, labeling, storage, and disposal per procedures
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test methods, workflows, and lab efficiency

Required Skills

  • Laboratory testing of building materials and products
  • Operation and calibration of mechanical and environmental test equipment
  • Reading and interpreting test standards, codes, and technical specifications
  • Data collection, analysis, and technical report writing
  • Basic understanding of building envelopes, structural components, and materials
  • Use of measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, load cells, sensors)
  • Applying safety practices and hazard control in a lab environment
  • Quality systems familiarity (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025, quality documentation)
  • Microsoft Office or similar software for data analysis and reporting
  • Basic CAD, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems (asset)
