This Senior Software Engineer opportunity is with a rapidly growing digital insurance organization focused on simplifying coverage for small businesses through technology. Since launching in 2016, the company has expanded its reach to serve hundreds of thousands of customers and is now accelerating investments in cloud platforms, engineering enablement, and AI-driven development practices. Based in Waltham, Massachusetts, this hybrid position will act as the primary Platform Engineering leader in the United States, blending hands-on backend development with infrastructure modernization and developer experience initiatives. Java and Kotlin expertise will be central to the role.
This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving problems at scale and enabling other engineers to work more effectively. You'll help define the internal engineering platform, influence technical direction across multiple teams, and champion the use of AI-powered tooling throughout the software delivery process. The organization is looking for someone who can balance strategic thinking with practical execution, creating systems, services, and workflows that improve reliability, speed, and developer productivity across the broader engineering organization.
Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience developing production backend systems using Java and/or Kotlin
• Proven background building and supporting internal developer platforms or engineering infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with public cloud environments and modern cloud-native architecture patterns
• Expertise in software delivery automation, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems with a focus on reliability and operational efficiency
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation, platform services, and engineering enablement initiatives
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions across multiple teams
