Job description

DecisionPoint seeks a QA/Test Automation Engineer to validate complex accession-processing workflows, business rules, integrations, and exception paths for the USMEPCOM ENLIST program. This senior role develops traceable functional test cases and test data, conducts exploratory and regression testing, supports automated test coverage, and documents objective evidence of software quality. The QA/Test Automation Engineer works with Government stakeholders, mission liaisons, requirements analysts, developers, architects, cybersecurity personnel, DevSecOps engineers, and other testers.

The position also supports Government user acceptance testing, defect triage, correction verification, sprint demonstrations, and release-readiness decisions. This position is remote, with Chicago-area candidates preferred.

Note: By applying to this position, you acknowledge and consent to having your resume included in an active competitive government contract bid. Duties & Responsibilities The QA/Test Automation Engineer will:

  • Analyze requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, workflows, interface requirements, and technical designs to determine testing needs.
  • Develop and maintain risk-based test plans, test scenarios, test cases, test scripts, test data, and expected results.
  • Validate complex accession-processing workflows, decision logic, business rules, data relationships, integrations, and exception paths.
  • Ensure functional test cases are traceable to approved requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and identified risks.
  • Maintain traceability among requirements, test cases, test results, defects, corrections, and release decisions.
  • Conduct functional, integration, system, exploratory, regression, smoke, and end-to-end testing.
  • Develop, execute, maintain, and improve automated regression tests where appropriate.
  • Identify stable and high-value test scenarios suitable for automation.
  • Support the integration of automated tests into approved build, continuous-integration, or delivery pipelines.
  • Prepare and manage representative test data while protecting sensitive information.
  • Verify data processing, calculations, field validation, role-based behavior, interfaces, and error-handling logic.
  • Execute tests in development, integration, test, staging, or other Government-approved environments.
  • Document test execution results and retain complete, repeatable, and auditable test evidence.
  • Capture screenshots, logs, data comparisons, system responses, and other objective evidence needed to demonstrate test outcomes.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through resolution.
  • Write clear defect reports containing reproducible steps, expected results, actual results, severity, evidence, and affected requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers and technical teams to reproduce issues, analyze root causes, and clarify expected behavior.
  • Verify corrected defects and perform targeted regression testing to identify unintended impacts.
  • Support defect-triage meetings and communicate quality risks, unresolved defects, and release impacts.
  • Prepare test status, defect metrics, coverage information, evidence summaries, and release-readiness recommendations.
  • Support Government user acceptance testing by preparing test cases and data, coordinating execution, documenting results, and tracking findings.
  • Assist Government users during acceptance testing and distinguish defects from training, configuration, data, or requirements issues.
  • Support sprint demonstrations, capability reviews, operational validation, and stakeholder-feedback activities.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity personnel to verify approved security corrections and related regression impacts.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily coordination, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test strategy, automation coverage, defect prevention, evidence management, and quality practices.
  • Mentor other testers and share knowledge of complex workflows, business rules, test techniques, and automation practices. Qualifications Required Qualifications  Candidates must possess all the following:
  • An active Secret clearance or higher.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent permitted by the applicable labor category.

  • Experience identifying, documenting, tracking, and verifying software defects.
  • Experience conducting exploratory and regression testing.
  • Ability to support the development, execution, or maintenance of automated regression tests.
  • Ability to analyze requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria to determine test coverage.
  • Ability to support Government or customer user acceptance testing.
  • Ability to communicate test results, quality risks, unresolved defects, and release impacts clearly.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, technical documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with analysts, developers, architects, cybersecurity personnel, DevSecOps engineers, testers, and Government stakeholders.
