AI Engineer

Build AI agents, automations, dashboards and data workflows for real clients.

About the role

Zenith builds the technology small businesses run on: websites, apps, customer portals, WhatsApp journeys, the AI Receptionist and the automations that connect them. We are looking for an AI & Automation Engineer to design and ship those automations end to end. You will work with our engineers, designers and delivery team on live client builds, from the first workflow sketch to a system the client's staff use every day.

Responsibilities Automation & integrations

• Design and build workflow automations across booking, ordering, CRM, messaging and accounting tools.
• Connect client systems through APIs and webhooks, with clear error handling and a human fallback.
• Build WhatsApp and email journeys with consent, timing and approval rules agreed with the client.

AI agents & assistants

• Build AI assistants and agents that answer from approved information and hand over to a person when needed.
• Design prompts, tools and guardrails, and evaluate output quality before and after launch.
• Integrate language-model features into client products and internal tooling.
• Model and connect client data so dashboards show the work that needs attention.
• Build reliable data pipelines and scheduled jobs, with monitoring and alerts.
• Document what each automation does so the client's team can operate it.

What you bring

• 3+ years building software or automations in a professional team.
• Strong TypeScript or Python, and comfort working with REST APIs and webhooks.
• Hands-on experience with a workflow automation platform such as n8n, Make or Zapier.
• Experience integrating language models (OpenAI, Anthropic or similar) into real products.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as Postgres.
• Clear written communication; you can explain a workflow to a business owner.
• Care for reliability: testing, logging, monitoring and safe handling of customer data.

Nice to have

• Experience with the WhatsApp Business Platform or other messaging APIs.
• Experience with Next.js, Vercel or serverless deployments.
• Familiarity with Lark, HubSpot, Xero, Square or other small-business tools.
• Experience building retrieval-based assistants or agent frameworks.
• Exposure to hospitality, retail, trades or professional-services clients.
