Job Description

At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance and healthspan. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.

WHOOP is hiring an Associate Director of Electrical Engineering to lead electrical engineering execution across New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Improvement (CI) for a WHOOP hardware product line. You will lead a team of electrical engineers responsible for bringing new hardware from development through production and continuously improving products already in the field. As the electrical engineering leader for the product line, you will ensure strong technical execution, drive cross-functional alignment, and build a team that delivers reliable, high-quality hardware at scale.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, build, and develop the Electrical Engineering team responsible for NPI and Continuous Improvement across a WHOOP product line, establishing clear ownership, priorities, and accountability.

  • Own EE execution across the full product lifecycle, from early concept and requirements definition through design, validation, manufacturing ramp, sustaining, and continuous improvement.

  • Set technical direction and drive engineering excellence across electrical architecture, circuit design, component selection, design reviews, validation, and failure analysis.

  • Lead the EE team through key development milestones, proactively identifying technical and execution risks and ensuring issues are resolved with rigor and urgency.

  • Partner closely with Mechanical, Firmware, Systems, Battery, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product teams to drive system-level decisions and deliver against product requirements.

  • Build a high-performing EE organization by hiring and developing engineers, strengthening technical leadership, and ensuring the team has the capabilities and resources needed to deliver.

  • Establish and continuously improve EE processes, tools, documentation, and development practices that increase engineering quality, efficiency, and scalability across the product lifecycle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience developing complex hardware products, with 4+ years experience leading engineers or technical teams.

  • Deep knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, including circuit design, PCBAs, power architecture, component selection, design validation, and failure analysis.

  • Experience bringing high-volume hardware products through NPI, manufacturing ramp, and sustaining engineering.

  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills and experience partnering with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and external manufacturing partners.

  • Proven ability to develop engineers, establish clear technical direction, and create effective engineering processes in fast-moving environments.

  • Preferred: experience with consumer electronics, wearables, or similarly integrated and space-constrained hardware products.

  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
