Senior L3 Network Engineer

Duration of Project: 12 months

Location/Address: Pleasanton, CA

Hybrid onsite schedule, candidate MUST live in or near Pleasanton, CA

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior L3 Network Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain advanced enterprise network infrastructure across data center, cloud, and operational technology environments. This role requires deep technical expertise in Cisco routing and switching, Palo Alto firewalls, SD-WAN solutions, and cloud networking platforms.

Required Qualifications

10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
Strong understanding of Layer 2 protocols and concepts (RSTP, VLANs, trunk/access ports, Layer 2 forwarding, MAC address tables) on the Catalyst 9300 platform
Strong understanding of BGP routing protocols (iBGP and eBGP)
Demonstrated design experience developing solutions to solve problems and deliver new network features
Solid fundamental understanding of Layer 3 networks and routing principles
Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst routing and switching platforms
Proficiency with Palo Alto Strata firewalls and Panorama management
Experience designing and implementing microsegmentation technologies (PVLANs, Trustsec/SGTs, or similar)
Required experience with Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure-as-code and network automation
Experience with SD-WAN technologies (Cisco Viptela and/or Palo Alto Prisma SD-WAN)
Cloud networking experience across Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud Platform
Network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, Splunk)
CCNP or PCNSE certification preferred

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods while performing network engineering tasks
Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in data center environments with varying temperature and noise conditions
Ability to travel to client sites as needed (estimated 10-15% travel)

Additional Qualifications (Preferred)

CCIE or requivalent
Meaningful experience with Catalyst 9800 wireless controllers
Experience working in operational technology (OT) and manufacturing network environments
