Job Description
Terraform / Infrastructure Automation Engineer - EDP Service & Automation Team
Remote Role
Compensation: $60 - $80 per hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is launching a new Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), an AI-ready data foundation built on a medallion architecture in BigQuery. The EDP Service & Automation Team is responsible for ingesting data from all source systems-on-premises and cloud-using a modern Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) pipeline stack (Dataflow, Dataform, Terraform, CI/CD automation), with governance managed through Google Knowledge Catalog (formerly Dataplex). This is a newly funded initiative with strong momentum and a clear path to additional headcount as internal funding is approved. As a Terraform / Infrastructure Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining Terraform infrastructure-as-code, automating environment provisioning, and supporting the deployment of data pipelines. You will collaborate closely with technical leads and developers to ensure scalable, efficient, and well-governed platform operations. This is a specialist role for candidates who excel in authoring and owning Terraform modules and thrive in fast-scaling, innovative environments.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own and manage Terraform infrastructure-as-code for the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), including environment provisioning and CI/CD pipeline automation.
- Collaborate with technical leads and developers to automate deployment of Dataflow and Dataform pipelines on Google Cloud Platform.
- Build, maintain, and document reusable Terraform modules to support platform scalability and reliability.
- Support and automate data governance processes in coordination with Google Knowledge Catalog (Dataplex).
- Ensure best practices in CI/CD pipeline design, implementation, and maintenance for data platform automation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of infrastructure automation and platform operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and deployment issues in a fast-scaling, newly-formed platform team.
- Deep, hands-on Terraform expertise in Google Cloud Platform, including authoring and maintaining modules (not just applying existing ones).
- Strong experience designing, automating, and running CI/CD pipelines in production environments.
- Working familiarity with Dataflow and Dataform pipeline deployments on Google Cloud Platform.
- Ability to build and maintain reusable, well-documented Terraform modules to support platform scale.
- Experience supporting governance automation with Google Knowledge Catalog / Dataplex.
- Comfortable working in a fast-scaling, newly-formed platform team and adapting to evolving requirements.
- Experience automating data governance/classification workflows (nice to have).
- Background supporting large enterprise data platform builds (nice to have).
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to acknowledge unfamiliarity rather than guess through technical questions.
- Opportunity to work on a cutting-edge, AI-ready data platform with a modern Google Cloud Platform stack.
- Be part of a newly funded, high-momentum initiative with growth potential.
- Collaborate with experienced technical leaders and developers in a fast-paced environment.
- Remote work flexibility.
- Competitive hourly compensation.
- Panel interview with three client technical leaders (one-hour session, primarily technical Q&A).
- Priority given to candidates with hands-on Dataflow, Dataform, Terraform, and SQL experience over purely architectural or theoretical backgrounds.
- Candidates whose Terraform experience is limited to following existing modules, rather than authoring and owning them, will not be considered.
