Salary Range: $130k - $160k DOE

Needs Active Secret Clearance

Has to be able to work at least 3 days on-site at offices in Delaware.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and develop scalable, enterprise-grade back-end services using Java (11/17+) and Spring Boot, following clean architecture and SOLID principles.

Build and expose RESTful APIs; design event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka for asynchronous data processing and inter-service communication.

Develop responsive, accessible front-end applications using React, JavaScript (ES6+), and CSS - ensuring consistent cross-browser and cross-device experiences.

Architect and implement microservices solutions - defining service boundaries, API contracts, and communication patterns across distributed systems.

Design and optimize relational data models in PostgreSQL; write complex SQL for business logic, reporting, and data integrity.

Champion test-driven development using JUnit; contribute to code reviews and maintain high engineering standards across the codebase.

Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and deployment; manage source control workflows and branching strategies in Git.

Engage in system design discussions; contribute to architecture decisions, technical documentation, and cross-team engineering guilds.

Actively participate in agile ceremonies - sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives - and support the delivery of high-quality releases.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

CS 8+ years of professional software development experience with a balanced full-stack profile.

Deep expertise in Enterprise Java (11/17+) and Spring Boot - including Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, and Spring Cloud components.

Hands-on experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs; understanding of API versioning, pagination, error handling, and contract testing.

Production experience with Apache Kafka - topics, partitions, consumer groups, and event-driven patterns.

Proven ability to design and decompose microservices architectures - service discovery, API gateways, circuit breakers, and distributed tracing.

Strong React proficiency: component architecture, hooks, state management (Redux/Context API), and integration with REST/GraphQL backends.

Solid JavaScript (ES6+) skills and CSS competence - including responsive layout, Flexbox/Grid, and CSS preprocessors or CSS-in-JS approaches.

Disciplined Git workflow - branching strategies (GitFlow/trunk-based), pull request hygiene, merge conflict resolution.

Test-driven development with JUnit; experience with Mockito and integration testing frameworks.

Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with PostgreSQL - schema design, indexing, query optimization, and stored procedures.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

Candidates with the following experience will be given strong preference

Drools / jBP

Experience with business rules engines - Drools or jBPM - for externalizing and managing complex decision logic.

Hands-on with MongoDB or other NoSQL document stores; ability to choose the right database paradigm for the use case.

Strong system design sensibility - designing for scale, resilience, observability, and maintainability in distributed systems.

Appreciation for UI/UX principles - accessibility (WCAG), design systems, and working closely with UX designers to implement pixel-accurate interfaces.

Familiarity with cloud architecture patterns (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) - multi-region deployments, managed services, and cloud-native design.

Experience with container orchestration on OpenShift or Kubernetes - Helm charts, namespaces, resource management, and rolling deployments.

CI/CD experience with Jenkins - pipeline-as-code (Jenkinsfile), build automation, and environment promotion.

Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform - provisioning and managing cloud resources in a repeatable, version-controlled manner.

Security-minded development: OAuth2 / OIDC for identity federation, mTLS for service-to-service authentication, and secrets management using HashiCorp Vault.
