Overview

Join a newly formed engineering team responsible for advancing Event Horizon, Walmart's enterprise messaging platform that powers critical promotions and customer engagement capabilities. Event Horizon is already deployed and supporting production workloads across the business, including Sam's Club, and is entering its next phase of growth with significant feature enhancements, scalability improvements, and platform modernization efforts.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in large-scale distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and high-throughput backend services. You will play a key role in designing, building, and scaling messaging infrastructure that supports millions of customer interactions across Walmart's digital ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Golang and Java
  • Build and enhance core components of the Event Horizon messaging platform
  • Develop highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems that process large volumes of events and messages
  • Partner with Product Managers, Architects, and Engineering teams to deliver new platform capabilities
  • Drive improvements in platform performance, reliability, observability, and scalability
  • Implement event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing solutions
  • Build APIs, microservices, and messaging integrations that support promotional experiences across multiple channels
  • Participate in architecture discussions and influence long-term technical strategy
  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis for complex distributed systems
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation, and operational excellence initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with Golang (preferred primary language)
  • Experience building distributed systems and microservices architectures
  • Experience with messaging, event streaming, or event-driven platforms
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs and backend service development
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure)
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Kafka, Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, or similar messaging technologies
  • Experience building platform-level services used by multiple engineering teams
  • Background supporting high-volume consumer-facing applications
  • Experience with promotions, ecommerce, marketing technology, or customer engagement platforms
  • Knowledge of observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry
  • Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code
