Liberty Community Programs is a residential Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment program dedicated to helping individuals build healthy, meaningful lives through evidence-based treatment, compassion, accountability, and recovery.
Position Summary
The Master’s Level Substance Abuse Counselor provides clinical services, including individual counseling, group therapy, treatment planning, and case coordination for adults in our ASAM Level 3.5 residential treatment program. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical care while supporting residents through all phases of recovery.
The counselor plays a key role in clinical decision-making, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive, person-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual counseling sessions to residents with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
- Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational group therapy sessions.
- Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and treatment plans.
- Develop, update, and maintain individualized treatment plans.
- Document all clinical services accurately and within required timeframes.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and case reviews.
- Provide crisis intervention and clinical support as needed.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, case management, and support staff.
- Assist with discharge planning and aftercare coordination.
- Maintain compliance with all ethical, legal, and regulatory standards.
- Support a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented treatment environment.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in one of the following or a related field:
- Social Work (MSW)
- Counseling
- Psychology
- Marriage and Family Therapy
- Behavioral Health or related clinical field.
- Active or eligible licensure in West Virginia (or ability to obtain), such as:
- LPC / LPC-Associate
- LCSW / LMSW
- LICSW (or equivalent clinical license)
- Experience in substance use disorder treatment, mental health, or residential treatment settings.
- Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Experience working in ASAM Level 3.5 or residential SUD treatment programs.
- Training or experience in CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, or trauma-informed care.
- Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Schedule
- Full-Time
- Monday–Friday
- Day Shift (with occasional flexibility based on program needs).
Education Required: Master’s Degree
Licensure Required: Eligible or licensed clinical provider in West Virginia
