Job description
What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?
At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.
A little more about your role...
The Senior Consultant – Offshore is a key role within the Renewable Power Generation business, supporting the successful delivery and growth of our offshore wind, subsea and broader renewable generation sectors. The role combines autonomous project and task delivery with client engagement, commercial awareness, technical contribution, business development and support for colleagues.
The role requires a strong understanding of offshore wind projects, their principal components and associated technologies, together with a consultancy and engineering mindset. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of their work, provide robust advice, coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and deliver high-quality outputs with limited oversight, independently, drawing on specialist support where appropriate.
You will work as part of the Offshore Wind team within the Energy group, with responsibilities including:
Project delivery: Manage and deliver offshore wind consultancy projects, work packages and tasks safely, efficiently and to agreed scope, programme, budget and quality requirements
Technical quality: Take ownership of technical outputs, applying appropriate checking and review processes and producing clear, well-reasoned reports and advice. Review work produced by more junior colleagues where appropriate.
Client relationships: Build trusted client relationships, respond proactively to client needs and act as a day-to-day point of contact for allocated projects and tasks.
Commercial management: Demonstrate strong commercial awareness by developing scopes, programmes and budgets; monitoring project performance; supporting invoicing; and actively managing project risks and opportunities.
Business development: Identify and develop opportunities, contribute to and coordinate proposals, support client-care activities and represent WSP appropriately in industry discussions and events.
Technical expertise: Apply a good level of offshore wind knowledge across project development, advisory, engineering and operations, while continuing to develop specialist expertise relevant to the team’s strategy and client needs.
People and collaboration: Mentor and support junior colleagues, provide constructive feedback and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across WSP to achieve project objectives.
Operational management: Maintain oversight of workload and resource requirements, use WSP systems and governance processes effectively, and support the Renewables Lead with resource, pipeline and operational planning as required.
Continuous improvement: Promote effective ways of working, knowledge sharing, digital tools and lessons learned to improve quality and efficiency across the team.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...
Relevant experience in renewable energy, with demonstrable experience of offshore wind projects and increasing responsibility for project or work-package delivery.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or another relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
The ability to deliver standard technical and consultancy tasks autonomously, with sound judgement on when specialist or senior input is required.
Strong project management and commercial skills, including experience managing scope, programme, budgets, risks and multidisciplinary inputs.
Exellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to clients, colleagues and other stakeholders.
Experience developing client relationships and contributing to proposals, bids and business-development opportunities.
The ability to mentor and coordinate junior colleagues and contribute positively to an inclusive, collaborative and accountable team culture.
Experience engaging with stakeholders across the offshore wind industry and an interest in developing WSP’s client and industry relationships
Professional accreditation, chartership or equivalent where relevant, or demonstrable progress towards an appropriate professional qualification.
A commitment to health, safety, technical quality, professional development and WSP governance requirements.
- Willingness to travel, including internationally based on project and client requirements.
In return you will be joining a company with:
An unrivalled market position built on our ability to deliver end-to-end solutions from site selection and consenting through to design and delivery.
An extensive portfolio of projects worldwide offering exciting and varied career opportunities across offshore renewables and the wider energy transition.
A commitment to investing in your development, professional growth and career.
Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.
Work on landmark projects around the world and embrace opportunities to make an even bigger impact in the communities you care about. What if you could do the best work of your life and create a legacy for yourself?
