Job Description

Role: Software Engineer, Backend Systems (Crypto Trading)

Location: New York, NY (On-site, 5 days per week)

Industry: Crypto / Fintech / Trading

Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Job Function: Engineering, Backend Software Development

You will build the backend behind this real-time trading platform: risk and liquidation engines, blockchain state machines, live market-data processing, and millisecond-latency APIs. This is a hands-on systems role for an engineer with production Rust experience, strong asynchronous programming skills, and a genuine interest in trading and financial markets. It is not a frontend, mobile, or general application-development role.

Must Have

•      2-4 years of backend software engineering

•      Fintech, crypto, trading, HFT, or blockchain experience

•      Hands-on production Rust (not just listed as a skill)

•      Asynchronous programming with Tokio or comparable Rust async systems

•      Real-time, high-throughput backend services

•      Low-latency or trading systems

•      Multiple database types (relational, time-series, key-value)

•      Startup experience (VC-backed preferred)

•      Genuine, demonstrable interest in trading and financial markets

•      Personal side projects, especially in Rust or C

•      On-site in New York City, 5 days per week

What You'll Do

•      Build and maintain risk and liquidation engines that manage risk and improve capital efficiency in volatile markets

•      Design and implement blockchain state machines that support trading, settlement, and risk operations

•      Develop services that keep state consistent across asynchronous processes using voting, consensus, and coordination mechanisms

•      Process live market data and coordinate time-sensitive actions across trading venues

•      Manage WebSocket streams and other real-time workflows

•      Build high-performance REST and WebSocket APIs with millisecond-level response times

•      Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in high-throughput event streams

Required Qualifications

•      2-4 years of relevant backend software engineering experience

•      Meaningful, hands-on production experience with Rust, with the ability to explain what you personally built and how it ran in production

•      Experience with asynchronous and concurrent programming, including Tokio or directly comparable Rust-based async systems

•      Experience building backend services for real-time, high-throughput systems

•      Experience with low-latency or trading systems where performance materially affected the product

•      Proficiency with multiple database types, including relational, time-series, or key-value databases

•      Meaningful experience working in a startup environment

•      Experience in fintech, crypto, trading, high-frequency trading, or blockchain

•      Genuine, demonstrable interest in trading and financial markets

•      Meaningful personal side projects, especially in Rust or C

•      Strong backend and systems-engineering fundamentals

•      Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, highly collaborative, in-person environment

•      Willing to work from the New York City office 5 days per week

•      , with no current or future visa sponsorship requirement

Preferred Qualifications

•      VC-backed startup experience

•      Experience with live data streams and time-sensitive workflows

•      Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including maintaining consistent state across asynchronous processes

•      Experience building REST and WebSocket APIs

•      Experience with risk engines, liquidation systems, matching engines, or settlement

•      Docker and production deployment experience

•      Visible GitHub activity showing curiosity and technical depth in systems engineering

•      Interest in web3 and where crypto trading is headed

•      Background at a trading, crypto, fintech, or high-performance infrastructure company
