About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Federal Reporting & Staff Writing Expert for an excellent fully remote contract opportunity. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience supporting federal or military organizations and understands the writing standards, reporting conventions, and structured communication practices used in government and defense environments.

This role is especially suited for professionals with experience producing Weekly Action Reports (WARs), Situation Reports (SITREPs), After-Action Reports, executive briefings, staff products, and other formal federal reporting artifacts.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, review, and refine authentic federal reporting artifacts, including WARs, SITREPs, after-action summaries, executive briefings, and related staff products.
• Develop clear, concise, accurate written responses and summaries based on provided prompts, source documentation, and project requirements.
• Apply appropriate federal and military reporting styles, terminology, structure, and conventions.
• Review sample project submissions and evaluate them against detailed grading criteria.
• Assess submissions for clarity, accuracy, completeness, compliance, and adherence to established reporting conventions.
• Provide objective, consistent, and well-reasoned evaluations and feedback.
• Ensure written deliverables communicate complex information effectively to leadership and other stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a federal professional within the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) or another federal organization, with at least 3 years of experience in federal reporting or staff writing.
• Demonstrated experience producing templated reports such as:
• Weekly Action Reports (WARs)
• Monthly Activity Reports (MARs)
• Situation Reports (SITREPs)
• After-Action Reports
• Executive Summaries
• Executive Briefings
• Staff Action Products
• Background with one or more branches of the U.S. military is highly valued.
• Experience across multiple military branches, organizations, or staff positions is a strong plus.
• Excellent written communication, editing, analytical, and evaluation skills.
• Strong understanding of professional federal and military communication standards.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.

The ideal candidate is a former or current federal/DoD professional who can recognize what makes a reporting product accurate, authentic, concise, compliant, and leadership-ready. Strong attention to detail and familiarity with real-world federal or military staff processes are essential.
