G'day! You've found an opportunity that could define your next chapter.

The Mission - Why This Programme, Why Now?You're joining at the defining moment of one of the most significant technology programmes Australia has ever undertaken. This programme will build and operate the dedicated cloud giving Australia's national security community and its allies the capability to see more, share more, innovate and act faster than ever before.
The architectural decisions being made now - how we structure networking, implement security controls, and automate at scale - will shape how Australia's national security community operates for the next decade. You won't be inheriting someone else's design choices. You'll be making them.
Your Place in This StoryPicture yourself stepping into a role where your curiosity and drive to learn are your greatest assets. As an Associate Security Specialist within AWS Region Services, you'll be immersed in the world of cloud security from day one - working alongside experienced security specialists who will guide your growth while you contribute meaningfully to one of Australia's most important technology programmes.
This isn't a passive learning experience. You'll be hands on from the start - assisting in the onboarding of regional cloud services, drafting and refining security documentation, and applying Australia's most critical security frameworks in real-world scenarios. You'll collaborate with over 100 AWS commercial service teams globally, gaining exposure to architectures and challenges that most security professionals only read about.
Your analytical mind will be put to work every day. You'll review technical specifications, gather audit evidence, flag risks, and help document corrective actions - all while building the foundational expertise that will accelerate your career in sovereign cloud security. With structured mentoring, internal workshops, and a learning path designed around your growth, you'll develop faster here than anywhere else.
Key Job Responsibilities- Assist in the onboarding of regional services, helping document and implement security controls for new AWS services entering the environment.
- Draft, edit, and validate technical specifications that meet regional security requirements.
- Interpret Australia's most important security frameworks in practice, including the Information Security Manual (ISM), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), and Defence Security Policy Framework (DSPF).
- Partner with internal service teams and customers to establish security baselines and objectives, building relationships across the programme.
- Engage with global AWS teams, identify product improvement ideas and support new feature requests that strengthen the platform.
- Support auditing processes by gathering evidence of controls in AWS environments and assisting in audit reporting.
- Flag risks and help document corrective actions, developing the judgement that separates good security practitioners from great ones.
- Deliver on deadlines and quality standards, participating in on call rotations to deepen operational awareness.
Your morning begins with a stand up alongside your team of security specialists. Today's focus: a new AWS service is progressing through regional onboarding, and you've been assigned to review the latest technical specification. Your mentor flags a few areas to pay close attention to - data flow patterns and how the service interacts with enterprise gateways.
You settle into the documentation, cross referencing against the controls specifications that apply. Something doesn't quite align - a data transfer mechanism needs further clarification. You draft a concise query to the global service team, referencing the specific PSPF requirement, and send it through.
Before lunch, you switch gears to audit support. You're gathering evidence that demonstrates how specific security controls are implemented in the environment. It's methodical work that sharpens your attention to detail - and you're learning exactly what auditors look for.
After lunch, a collaborative session. You join a working group reviewing onboarding documentation for consistency and completeness. You suggest a refinement to how a particular control is described - your team lead nods approvingly and asks you to implement the change across the template.
You close your day knowing that every document you refined, every risk you flagged, and every question you asked moved you - and Australia's sovereign cloud - forward.
Benefits- Learning & development - AWS training and certification support, access to internal learning platforms.
- Health, income protection and life cover - Amazon subsidises private health insurance premiums, and group salary continuance and life insurance are included at no cost to you.
- Military differential pay launching in Australia - Australian employees taking defence reserve leave may receive up to 52 weeks of military differential pay to help cover the difference in pay while serving.
- Employee Assistance Program - Free, confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for you and your family - mental health, financial coaching, legal questions, and everyday life events.
- Family building benefit - Access to Maven for fertility treatment, adoption support, surrogacy, and parenting coaching.
- Amazon Extras & employee discount - Cashback and discounts across hundreds of retail, fitness, travel, and lifestyle partners.
- Experience in one or more of the following fields: technical, security or privacy education/training, information security, risk management, corporate communications, program management, project management, psychology or other related field.
- 1+ years of experience in security assurance, compliance, audit, or a related security discipline at a government agency, financial institution, healthcare organisation, or other highly regulated entity.
- Ability to solve problems methodically and communicate findings clearly.
- Awareness of PSPF, ISM, and DSPF (training will cover deeper details).
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent, or experience in IT Security.
- Experience communicating clearly and concisely with leadership, stakeholders, and cross functional teams.
- Experience in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans.
- Experience in one or more of the following: application security frameworks, security code reviews, incident response, security infrastructure, penetration testing, mobile security, cloud security, AI security, identity and access controls.
