Title: Life Safety Systems Engineer — Fire Alarm / NFPA
Location: Remote or Hybrid (U.S. Nationwide — near any major city)
Employment Type: W-2 Contract
Pay Rate: $35–$68/hr depending on location, experience, and cost of living
Duration: ~7 months (through February 2027)

About the Role
We are placing three Life Safety Systems Engineers on long-term contracts supporting high-tech facility design for a top-tier engineering firm. You can work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. or hybrid (2 days/week) near office. Projects include semiconductor cleanrooms, data centers, laboratories, and industrial facilities.
This role involves the design of fire alarm and life safety systems from concept through construction documents. No PE license required — the deal-breaker is hands-on fire alarm / life safety design experience.

Key Responsibilities

•    Design fire alarm systems, VESDA (aspirating smoke detection), and life safety systems
•    Design security, CCTV, HPM leak detection, and toxic gas management systems
•    Produce 3D BIM models using AutoCAD and Revit MEP in coordination with multi-discipline teams
•    Design fire sprinkler systems, smoke and leak detection, and security/intrusion detection systems
•    Apply NFPA and other applicable codes and standards to all designs
•    Prepare engineering calculations, equipment specifications, network diagrams, and construction deliverables
•    Interface directly with clients, contractors, and code officials

Required Skills & Experience

•    Hands-on fire alarm and life safety design experience — REQUIRED
•    Knowledge of NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm and Signaling Code)
•    Knowledge of NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code)
•    Knowledge of IBC and IFC
•    Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP

Preferred Qualifications

•    VESDA system design experience
•    Security and CCTV design experience
•    Toxic gas monitoring (TGM) or HPM leak detection experience
•    NFPA 70 (NEC) knowledge
•    Experience with semiconductor, data center, or mission-critical facility design
•    NICET certification in fire alarm systems
•    Bachelor''s degree in Engineering or related discipline

Additional Details

•    Remote: open to candidates anywhere in the U.S. who live more than 50 miles from a Jacobs office
•    Hybrid: 2 days/week in nearest Jacobs office if within 50 miles
•    No PE license required
•    Must disclose any non-compete agreements with current employer
•    Must be authorized to work in the U.S. — no visa sponsorship
